View Full Version : Styling or what? - The new Guzzi tourer

I am not sure about this new Guzzi tourer, it is angular and it's hard to make a bike look good in silver, but this one seems to look "right". Not as nice as the KRS/GT for sure, but probably the best that Guzzi has done. What do you make of it?

Hard to make a bike look good in Silver?! Yeah it's much easier using some sort of Yellow and Black combo or Seafoam Green...

Mark,
I agree with Mike...many bikes and cars simply do not look good in sliver since it seems to hide the curves/angles, however, I have seen pictures of your 2005 GT and, I must say, the RS/GT body style looks marvelous in silver! :)
So, don't take it personal....you have a great looking bike!
As far as the Guzzi, it doesn't look like your Grandads Guzzi does it? I think it has too many chopped up fairing pieces for my taste. It just doen't flow well.

to me the guzzi tourer is ugly as shit and looks no where near as good as the new GT and certainly not the current GT. just my opinion though i'm sure there are those out there that think the guzzi looks great. to each his own, if you like it and buy it, and are happy with it more power to you.
i will say one thing bmw ought to hire whoever designs MV Augusta bikes....the new senna and the f4 tamborini look totally awesome and better than anything bmw currently has on the market. i'd drop my RS for a tamborini in a heartbeat if i could afford the 48 grand price tag. since 48 grand is beyond my finanial resources for the foreseeable future i'll have to settle for the k1200s.

Massimo Tamburini is the master artist who designed the MV Agusta F4.
He is also responsible for such classics as the Ducati 916 (also influenced the 996/998 series). IMHO, the last of the sexy Ducatis.
I sold my F4 750 a couple months ago, and every time I walk through the garage and see that it's no longer in its spot, I get depressed. I'd love to get the F4 1000, but I have resigned myself that with my size, that I just don't "fit" the MV -- envision a monkey fucking a football as my friends tell me.
I look at the Pierre Terblanche designs at Ducati (999, multistrada) and my stomach turns. I look at David Robb's work, and go ugh! And then there are the absolutely uninspired designs coming from Japan. There something the Italians do right, and that is this motorcycle (at least from a design standpoint). And Massimo Tamburini is the best out there.

Mark, did mean to offend, I have a silver Audi A4 and the lines look great, but it is a color that either enhances the design, or if not excellent, becomes the worse color for that design. Have a look at the A4 Silver versus the current Toyota Camry or Honda Accord if you want to see my point. Maybe it something to do with the "metalwork transparency" feel of a silver color.
I love the shape of my KRS and am going to keep it!

That's the best looking Guz I've ever seen... About time they do something visually correct... Trash the Harley-ish mirrors and it's a keeper... Much better looking than the new GT, me thinks... Sexy..! Thx for posting the pic.. Had not seen that..

Thanks. :)
I think how a bike or car etc.. looks in Silver or any other colour has a lot to do with the quality of the paint job and BMW does excellent work.

Mark, did mean to offend
I thought so ;)
On a more serious note, I'm sure you didn't mean to offend anyone, you were just expressing your opinion. However, you stated your opinion like it was fact...that's what got my back up. I don't happen to share your opinion regarding Silver bikes being hard to make look good or the lines being easily hidden etc. (if anything I think the darker colours would hide the lines) but that's what makes us individuals.
In my hasty and somewhat unthinking response I may have offended owners of Yellow/Black and Seafoam Green bikes, if so I apologize. I happen to prefer the looks of the GT/RS in other colours, but whatever the colour, it's still a great looking bike. Now back to the discussion regarding the Guzzi...

Wow, that's seems to give a very nice impression of that bike. Not sure what grabs me about it, looks like a slightly retro/modern/classic bike. A classy design that seems to have a bit of a timeless quality. Hard to put my finger on, but very nice. Also looks like it has been designed for the long haul US touring market......

Looks better than the R1200RT, but the technical specs for the RT are better than the Guzzi. I never met a silver bike I didn't like, I have two now and my previous bike to these was silver. In chronological order:

Personally, I find the looks of the new Guzzi "interesting" in a sort of mildly attractive sort of way. The overall looks, at least to me, lend to certain traits of the old Yamaha Venture (remember...the Goldwing beater) and the current Yamaha FJR 1300. Don't cha' just love the way that Guzzi motor profiles!

I'm with ya, Silver or Black look very nice on a bike, or car for that matter. I wonder if, or when, they will release a Black S? I think it would be a top-seller.
I definitely prefer the looks of the new GT (or old) to the Guzzi...no contest.

Looks like we are in the minority here since I am not falling all over this design either! I agree with Pirate that it is the "best looking Guzzi ever", but, that isn't saying much in my book!
Itallian design or not, look at how many different parts there are to that fairing....it just doesn't flow well. To me it looks more angular and less fluid than the new GT (I am not a fan of it either, but I definitely like it better than the Guzzi for now.....will wait till I see them in person before making any final determinations). To me, the Guzzi looks as though they couldn't make up their mind on what they wanted to the bike to look like and just kept adding on shit until they couldn't put anymore on it.
And I stand by my statment that many, many cars and bikes look so much better in black or red than silver due to the silver hiding or softening the lines. I am NOT a silver hater and have owned many cars in silver. My company vehicles (other than my X5 4.6is and the newer Ford SuperCrew (they didn't offer silver)) are silver.
The BMW Z4 and the Mercedes SL class are two prime examples of how much better the car looks in a different color other than silver and/or champagne and it wasn't just me. I was at driving experiences for both mfgs. at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and one at Stone Mountain Park....the lines for the silver/champagne were much shorter, even though they were the same car with the same equipment.....people wanted their pics in the black model and I heard many comments about how much better they looked it black and/or red.
And, I am not trying to offend anyone, but, TO ME, other than maybe the naked bikes, Ducatis all look much better in Red than Silver as their lines are accented very nicely!
I agree with you, Jeff and the others about the MV Augusta....she is one sexy design and her design fits her intention.

Norge, now that's forgettable. I think I had a washing machine called Norge :)
Hey! I remember Norge washers! There used to be Bendix washers too. You had to bolt the Bendix ones to the floor as part of the normal installation because they vibrated so much. How things have changed over 50 years! The Miele washer we have, for example, is so vibration free and spins so fast, it sounds like a gas turbine spooling up.

How do you like the X5?
I agree the Ducati looks very nice in Red...and I'm not much of a Red fan on bikes or cars. Still, certain bikes and cars seem to suit Red. The Corvette looks great in Red, tho I'd still go after a Black or Silver one if I was in the market (which I hope to be one day!).
Guess we're getting off topic here :)

The last time I checked the mirrors on my '04 K1200RS are mounted on the handlebars. I guess it's a pretty good idea. I like them that way on my '76 Triumph also.

The Guzzi is a great bike, probably as good as they get. Unfortunately the Guzzi dealer network in the US is more spare than BMW. If Guzzi had a dealer closer than the BMW shop I support, the Guzzi ( any number of them [ MGS-01 Corsa / Griso) would be on the top of my list for new rides.
And if Aprilia came close,,,forget it,,, there'd be a Tuono 1000 R parked here already.
BMW has been a perennial favorite, and certainly in the top 1%, but it isn't the hottest ride going,,,just the hottest within reasonable reach.

Anything Italian, bikes, cars, women, etc. NEED a dealer close by. High maintenance, but fun to ride until they need it and damn sexy just sitting there (other than the new Guzzi....it looks thrown together).

I am not sure about this new Guzzi tourer, it is angular and it's hard to make a bike look good in silver, but this one seems to look "right". Not as nice as the KRS/GT for sure, but probably the best that Guzzi has done. What do you make of it?
I see Aprillia influence in the design. But I see Moto Guzzi influence for the mirrors. :) Though, in fairness, they do have an Italian flavor to them.
In Italy, Moto Guzzi is very much the Harley style-wise. They're very strong in traditional and cruiser style flavor. Some could say that the new Griso is V-Rod inspired, though with visibly much less rake.
The Breva and now Norge are clear departures. Who knows, maybe the venerable Lemans will get a makeover. Though it does seem to have a staunch and loyal following.
It seems that the Norge stylists decided they wanted to showcase the exhaust as it crosses back under the head and goes towards the collector. That presented some design challenges since it broke up the fairing, causing the bottom part to become a chin fairing. They decided they needed something to connect the 2 parts visually hence the reverse C shape angular wind deflector. It may actually contribute aerodynamically, or not.
Now the new MGS-01 seems the best of the Aprillia/Guzzi offspring. Aprillia-inspired looks with all the character of that Guzzi twin in full splendor.

Where is the objective examination of the Guzzi performance and potential handling ???? Somehow comment seems to have devolved into a critique on the the most obvious feature - a dodgy, piecemeal looking fairing style. The Guzzi marque is obviously looking for new direction and markets with this bike and its recent brothers.

Until it comes to market, around '07 maybe, we'll just be wildly speculating on anything.
All we have for now in the known is the appearance and the motor.
