R1200ST Fuel Mileage?

Anyone riding the R1200ST? I am wondering what kind of fuel mileage they get. I have been looking at used K1200RS but I read some posts about mileage in the mid 30's. Mabye the R1200ST may be easier on the gas. I have had 2 R bikes and was thinking about trying the K bike for a change. I love the boxer motor but the cruise control on the KRS sure would be nice!

Well, I've got an r1200gs and the mileage is significantly better than the k12rs. I would
expect about the same of the ST, even though it has 10 bhp more. With its 5.5
gallon tank, the guys i'm riding with get 250 miles easy.

I'll ditto what Eric2 said. I went from a K12RS to a 1200GS and fuel mileage increased about 10 MPG. With the GS at 12,000 miles I'm averaging between 250 to 275 miles per 5.3 gallon tank. That's about 47 - 52 MPG. I usually got about 40 - 42 on the RS. I would think with the slicker fairing on the ST it would be at least as good as the GS.

I now have 17,000 miles on my ST, when riding with several friends who have R1150R's, typically when I add 3 gallons they add 3 1/2. Much better mileage than my R1150R. The new Hexhead engined Beemers are a vast improvement over the Oilheads in every way.

Thank's for the fuel mileage info. I am going to ride the ST and the new 1200GS as soon as I can get to the dealership. I will probally stick with the R series. I have heard great things about the 1200GS and am dying to ride one. I read on a post that the R1200ST probally wont be offered in the US for '06. Thank's Britt

I have an '06 RT. On the highway - even with aggressive riding I can get 48-50 mpg. consistently. Keep in mind the RT is heavier so everything else being equal, I would expect the ST to possible get even 1 or 2 mpg over that at the minimum.

Out of the BMW's I have owned the touring mpg's are as follows:

1981 R80RT - 45mpg
1989 R100GS - 49mpg
1988 K100RS SE - 58mpg
2005 K1200S - 52mpg
These figures have been taken from my own records and reflect touring miles. Potter about at slow speed and the mpg increases whilst conversely if the speeds / acceleration are use in earnest then the mpg drops.

U.S. Gallons: 3.785 liters

My wife gets ~50 mpg on her ST; I'm around 40 mpg on my K1200S -- both riding same speed; I tend to jump on mine a bit more on takeoff.

I ride a k1200rs, usually with a pillion, usually fast sport touring. I get between 120miles and 150 miles to reserve. It's a great bike but the tank range is rubbish. Used to have a R1200s, now thinking of a R1200ST because of nicer power delivery and fuel consumption:)

Not getting any better mileage with the KR? I was expecting better mileage given the KR is significantly lighter (521 lbs wet) then the KRS (630 lbs wet). I suppose the gears *are* steeper...
