Warning light self-check

Hello fellow riders,

I recently purchased a 1987 K100Rs, Would someone please tell me if the temperature warning light should come on when the bike switches are first turned on? Battery and oil pressure lights come on but not the temperature light. The fan does come on after approx. 10 minutes of idle speed.

This light will not come on on a 2-valve k-bike upon switching the key to on. It only lights after a certain temperature is reached (220 F). The only time one of these motors is likely to get this hot is if the cooling fan fails.
