After further investigation switching the relays was not successfull.

I am begining to narrow down the culprit. Testing the fuses I only have voltage to slots one and three and no power to the remaining slots, according to the wiring diagram slots 3,4 and 5 all share a power source, so.... I need to trace those wires out.

I also tested the power to the relays themselves and found that they all had power going to them except for the top right relay which i believe is the horn relay....

I belive that i am going to need a new wiring harness.......

I'm a huge Michelin fan myself. That's the only tire that will ever touch my cars..... However I think motorcyles are different. You don't have to worry about blowouts has much or tread patterns that get yoy better gas mileage or even how round or balenced they are. All top brands all be pretty close. A lot of peopl have to change tires on motorcycles due to dry rout (sitting to long). Not myself but many non the less. I found that most tires have gone up in price within the last 2 years exept for one high quality tire That I have been very impressed with on my last bike and now my Bimmer. That's the Bridgestone BT023's. They last about has long as the Michelin's. Maybe a 1000 miles or so less. For my riding (at least on my old Superhawk) that's 10k miles instead of 11k. A lot of my miles are easy commuting miles. They actually turn in quicker then the Michelin's, otherwise handle very similarly. You can by the sets of the BT023's for the price of 2 sets of Michelin's. Find a sale on them and you can almost by 2 sets for every 1 set of Michelin. Google them and you will see I'm not the only one to rave about them. I haven't rode on Metzler's since 2005 so I can't say much about them. But here's my opinion on recent experience....

PR's, PR2's, PR3's.....All great but not best value.... maybe the best commuting tire if you don't care about your bank account

Pirelli Angels...... SUCK! horrible mileage, very slow turn in, traction on dry is average, wet is not has good as others, pricey....... Just can't justify getting them especially for more monry then BT 023's

BT023's - Best price, best turn in, great traction dry and wet, hands down best value. If you ride has much as me get a deal on 2 or 3 sets at a time and store them in your garage until Bridgestone jacks up there price like everyone else..... Then go back to Michelin's

Avon Storm..... Awesome tire. Absolutely shocked at how good these tires were when I got a deal on them when they first came out.... However they almost cost has much as Michelin's now. I think they handle a little better but don't last as long.... Once again I would just go for Michelin's again....

Just my opinion..... Let us know what you get

It takes some practice but I've don't this with a fully loaded ('03) GT, so it is the way to go....

As to what gears when, for casual, "jus' gettin' down th' road" riding, shifting somewhere around 2500-3000 will do the job. Expect to see mileage drop in short-haul local riding with traffic. If you're doing 50-60 MPH on good roads with no traffic, 40-42 MPG makes more sense.
I'd like to change the oil and filter and just get to know her a bit. Putting it on the center stand about killed me, my Voyager and Bandit were much easier, i'm sure it's just me getting used to it. I'm also on my 2nd tank of fuel and it seems to get poor fuel mileage, hits 142 and the light comes on. Not sure how far it will go but i've been refueling around 160 miles or so. Could be my riding and not using 6th gear enough? I do have the BMW hard bags and a GIVI Maxia3 trunk, so that may not help with aerodynamics? Just looking for friendly advice on the bike.. 38100 on the odometer at this time and climbing...
I live in Independence, MO and would love to meet up with anyone in the area..
With the sidestand down, the starter would run (if in gear, and the clutch pulled), but the bike wouldn`t start.......it`s two different circuits.

If you put the sidestand down in neutral the motor should still run. If you put the sidestand down and it dies then the sidestand switch sounds ok.

You need to have a good look at the clutch lever internals. If there is wear in the lever pivot, that will release the button on the clutch microswitch. You could also have a break in the wiring to the clutch switch. The only real way to tell is to disconnect the clutch microswitch wires and check with an ohmeter or stick a couple of pins through each wire for the clutch swich coming out of the lever assembly and again check with an ohmeter.

Replacing the Male side is necessary, but the Female sides don't usually break, and it is easy to over-tighten it and crack the threaded boss (the pipe threads are slightly tapered). I just bought a 1992 K100RS, Great bike, low miles. Anyways, my brake light stopped working so I pulled it out, checked bulb, fine and checked fuses etc... All look fine. However the wiring in there is old of course and a few wires look a little worse for the wear. Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas? Or other thoughts, suggestions, etc..?

I was lucky, my chain waited to jump until 88,000 miles and within 5 miles from home. It sounded just like yours but they ended up needing to replace the head, valves and eventually had to replace main bearings due to low oil pressure after they put it back together. My bill was $11,000 but extended warranty picked it up. You think the AAA premier coverage paid off, the $1200 extended warranty was a good investment on his bike! One of the employees at my local Cycle Gear store had his 07 GT cam chain jump and the bill was $7000. He did not have warranty but BMW paid for a new head, he paid for some parts and all labor, about $4000 out of pocket. The bad new is that his bike took 6 months to get fixed and mine took 51 weeks. I hope you don't need a head and your dealer has good parts availability. It will be interesting to see if BMWNA will do anything for you. Keep us posted. Best motherF#$**^g bike ever made!!!

It can seem daunting the first time, but it's really not difficult. The biggest problem I had was getting the tank cover pieces back together afterwards. Still, not a big deal.

It will take most of a day if you overthink it...ask me how I know.
In hindsight it should have taken me 2 hours, maybe three, to take the tank out and put it all back together.

On the front of the tank, there is the quick disconnect fuel line, a breather line, and 2 electrical connections. You can tilt the tank back to get enough room to stick your hands down in there. Once those 4 items are free, the tank lifts out easily...unless you just filled it up.
Once you've lifted the tank, it's easy to check/fix the QD fitting. And be careful about fuel getting into the heat shield that's under the tank. If it smells like that got soaked, I would probably leave the tank out long enough to dry before putting it all back together.

Yes, that's what I do too (use a rubber car mat), works great. And I just don't use the centerstand elsewhere... I've had the thing slide forward even on asphalt.

The slant-4 K1200GTs and K1300GTs (from 2006 on) have a "ball joint", sealed with a clamp that wraps around it. The muffler part looks like a funnel, and the manifold part looks like a ball with most of it cut off. The "funnel" covers the end of the ball. The clamp is like a strap that goes completely around the joint. Instead of being flat, it is slightly curved to match the "funnel" and "ball". There are two tabs at the end of the strap, sorta like a hose clamp. One tab has a nut welded on, and the other has a hole for the corresponding bolt. You push the bolt through the hole into the nut, and tighten it so the strap holds the "funnel" and "ball" together.

Extra hints:

1. Instructions and photos are in the user manual, in the section about removing and reinstalling the rear wheel.

2. There is an alignment mark on the clamp. The clamp should be aligned so that the arrow points to the oxygen sensor (looks like a spark plug) on the headers.

3. Torque the clamp bolt to 35 Nm.

4. Check the muffler / tire clearance. The muffler should not be too close to the tire.

5. The ball joint should be lubricated with Optimoly TA as a part of regular maintenance.

The screws hold the pivot bushings in place.

You back out the countersunk screws about half way then tap on the screw heads to drive the centerstand pivot bushings out of the bores to release the stand. After the bushings are free then completely remove the screws.

If you twisted off one of the screws you should be able to use a punch and drive out the bushing. It will be much easier to drill out in a vise on the bench. The bushings have flats that key into the bores. Make sure they line up when you reassemble the stand.

Good luck. (and I apologize for a very bad write up on my centerstand repair BUT my repair is still holding)

I also have a 1987 K75s. Don't be so quick to sell the bike. The bike is very easy to work on. I'm pretty far from being a mechanic, but have been able to do the fuel pump, spline lube, rear and front master cylinders, and some electrics. Just pick up a good repair book, I have the Clymer manual, forums like this one, also I got a step by step on my fuel pump replacement from ibmwriders. The resources are there for you, I can't imagine selling my K75. Good luck with your K bike.
