Tank protector for a Tri-color K1300S?

Hi there, just picked up my new tri color K1300S the other week, and what a bike! While it's still new, I want to make sure I protect the tank from scratches, especially the front of it where it rubs against my jacket. I'm not as concerned about where my knees touch, but I suppose if I find something nice, I should put something there too.

Here's a stock photo to help visualize:

With the beautiful paint job, I don't think something solid like this would be good (techspec)?

Carbon fiber might be ok too, since it's black under the front of the tank (ZTechnik):

What about something clear like this from Nippy Norman's? Anyone had any experience with it?

paint protector

I have used the paint protector, but if you want to grip with your legs when braking or hanging off the seat. For me its mostly braking, use the Gripster or this http://www.stompdesign.com/stompgrip/pads.asp , by Stomp Design. They don't have the BMW listed but they do make one for the K1200S, If the tank is the same you should be able to use it on your K1300S, Oh ya the Stomp Design is a clear plastic with stubs, and will be a pain to get on the tank (getting the bubbles out on install). I purchased the ones for a Ducati and had/watched them put on my K1200S.
It will still take away the looks of the paint scheme but is better than a black pattern on the bike.
I like the gripping part and will probable go with the full pattern (much like the Gripper) on my K1200S.
Stomp Design 714-894-9388 in Huntington Beach, CA, called and they said they still make it for the K1200S. It would look good if you can get it on with out the bubbles under the plastic.

you could try www.thetankslapper.com The clear film is easy-on easy-off. I used it for about 1.5 years then switched to the tech spec stuff and the carbon fiber center piece. I also would not want to hide that nice paint job.
Hmm... thanks, didn't come across them! For $15, even if I don't like it, it's no big deal.

They also sell 3M tape that sticks on, for $30, which seems like a good price, as I guess it's comparable to the stuff from that Norman site, which costs double that, from the UK.

I wonder if the K1200S tank is the same as the K1300's? The Norman site seems to indicate so, as theirs says "PAINT PROTECTOR SET - K1200S/1300S"

It really is easy-on and easy-off since the slapper stuff clings with static electricity. You are right, for $15 it's worth a try. Once it is on, you cannot even see it.

I'm thinking that the front of the tank is my main concern, where jacket zippers and belt buckles can rub, so considering that part of the tank is black already, I might go with a carbon fiber sticker one. Decisions, decisions!

This tankslapper film, it's thick enough compared to the 3M stuff?

If it doesn't stick with glue, it wouldn't slide around with the rubbing of a jacket on it over time? Do you find that you need to keep re-adjusting it once in a while?

I have not compared the tankslapper film with the 3M stuff. I wanted something that I could easily remove so I went with the slapper. Surprisingly, the slapper stuff sticks like glue unless you want to remove it. The slapper stuff does not move around at all, but it comes right off when you want it to.

Nice to hear. And how about the corners, where without glue, I'm thinking they'd be the areas most prone to peeling up / curling edges?

The corners/edges do not curl. You have to use your finger nail to pick at the edges to get the slapper off. Then it comes right off. Look at their web site and check the video on how to apply and remove it. you should be able to see how it stays in place.
