ABS II reset technique?

Does anyone know how to reset the abs II? My 2000 k1200 rs has alternating abs lights flashing on the dash with engine off and only the ignition key in the on position. I've checked the brake light switches, rear taillight bulb, wheel sensor gaps, and put a brand new bmw gel battery in bike. I read an article on the web that says the abs can be reset, but it only describes using a single wire into the computer module connector and the other end of the wire onto pin #23, but it gives no picture or information where pin #23 is located. Anyone who has successfully reset the abs II on their k1200rs, please reply with complete details. This model BMW does not have an automatic reset button (none seen, and verified by bmw dealer). Also, turning the key off then on again does not reset the abs as it apparently should. Help!

They always flash alternately with key first on until the self diagnostics are finished and that includes both wheels rolling forwards several feet (I bet the same is true if the bike was rolled backwards down a hill!). I'm not sure from your post if this is a new to you bike and perhaps you don't understand how the BMW ABS lights work. Once the bike is rolling forwards the lights should go out. If they still stay on, you have a fault to look into.

I'm sure I'm right in saying ABS II is the simpler (read easier to work with!) ABS system like mine and the ABS computer has no memory backup. Therefore, disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour should erase anything it stored. If the lamps still flash after doing this and moving forwards then there's a real fault and you should get the fault code read out. It may be a siezed pump piston. There's no fluid level sensing on the older ABSII systems.

However once you've cleared the fault code memory, you lose any useful data which could point to a real problem still there that can be read out by the BMW diagnostic computer.

GFC,

Dis-connecting the battery will not re-set some of the true ABS faults.

A 'good' shop tech can supposedly re-set the fault codes with the BMW diag. computer.

I have sucessfully re-set a #7 code (dead ABS control unit) that was diagnosed by a dealer as needing a $1500 ABS unit. Once re-set, the ABS worked perfectly and AFAIK it is still working 2 years later.

Doing this requires a willingness to do 'Not Factory Approved' work, plus a good bit of dissassembly to gain good access and clear vision of the 38pin??? connector that plugs into the ABS unit.

Definately the first thing you need to do is follow Anton's instructions on reading the fault codes.

Let me know what you find....
