You may be able to get some lines made at an hydraulic shop, I did that on my GS, the cost was a fraction of aftermarket lines. I did that back in 92, they were still on the bike when I sold it last year.
Mind you I know about the "liability" thing that may refrain any hydraulic shop from making you lines in the USA, but in Canada not really a problem, there is even a Canadian supplier on E-Bay selling braided lines, the only thing is that you have to give him the specs so he can make them for you.

But you may want to take the calipers apart and also the master cylinders, front and rear, and inspect them well, funny things happen inside them when they sit too long.

Good luck getting that old K back on the road....don't worry you don't have to PM me when you are finished....different forum, but that was a good one, what an a....t!

Brake Lines

As much as i love the spiegler lines (hi viz and all) my pocket book dictates that i get regular stainless steel lines. once again the guys at Re-Psychle in Columbus are there to help. Should have them by thursday.

Hopefully if the roads are plowed i'll be able to take the hi viz machine on it's maiden voyage around the town. Here's hoping for OK weather....

Thanks again for all of your suggestions and help. That's what this forum thing is all about.

Another Classic K Hits the Highway!!!

At 2:10 PM today i successfully drove my K bike down to the local gas station and back for a 4.2 mile journey. Would've gone longer but lack of insurance, plates, inspection, and a few other key factors kept my maiden voyage to a minimum.

I have to say, i loved the way it handled. Can't wait to get this puppy up and running for good.

Stay tuned, i am planning on hosting a K-Tastic Tech Day at my house sometime in March complete with German Food and German K-Pro to help with all of your questions.

I would like to thank everyone for helping me get this K bike back on the road. I am sure the questions will just be starting.

FYI: I'll be at Boxerworks in Atlanta on Friday and Saturday then the Holiday Travel Park in Daytona after that for a while. Hope to see you there. no i won't have the K, i'll be taking the R100 GS.

This time it was for real!

Took the bike out for a proper 25 mile trip yesterday afternoon. Bike behaved wonderfully. I will be sponsoring a tech day in the next few weeks for other K Bikes. I'll provide some tools and space, my wife will provide the vittles, you supply the bikes and we will all entertain ourselves!!!

I don't know about all of this - I bought an old honda XL175, 1973 vintage. She had been left out in the weather for the last five years, had no battery and flat tyres blah.... blah.... blah. Anyway, threw some fuel in her and she fired second kick. Then replaced oil, plug, cleaned the points and lubed the cables. She has been running sweet for two years now. There is a lot to be said for low/no technology Mind you, she just runs around the paddock, and doesn't stray on the highway at silly speeds......

Sometimes the cheapest really can be the cheapest form of economy

Water Pump

Q: How do you know if the water pump is working? Should the fluid be gurgling around under the cap? It's looking pretty still to me.
