On my Ztechnik titanium exhaust there is a burn mark on one of the pop rivets that hold the ztechnik logo on to the exhaust. It's like exhaust is coming out of side of the pipe rivet.
Anyone seen this before?
If the rivet is the least bit loose, exhaust gasses will be leaking from around there (I've never seen a double-wall can). The guy who riveted on the nameplate (I doubt very seriously if this operation is automated) might not have had his gun perpendicular when he set the rivet. Is the rivet loose? Does the rivet's flange look to be pulled down flat all the way around? Loose rivets on racecars and planes are characterized/identified by a black stain/powder that forms around the rivet head from fretting, this is from the abrasion of the joined plates rubbing against each other and the rivet due the rivet having lost its mechanical fastening capability.
the rivet isn't loose, iguess the guy who riveted put it in at an angle like you said. Do you think that this will cause problems? I do get backfire on this POS exhaust.
I to have seen this on my 04 k1200gt from the front rivet. This i thought was real odd and was real hard to clean off. I wish i had made a photo of this maybe next time. Do you have the chip installed also ? Have a good day.
No chip installed. I don't like this exhaust at all. It came on the bike when I bought it from a guy. My dad has a K1200RS with a Staintune and I love the sound of his. If I had the money to buy one, I would trash this one. It only about 3 months
I just can't see this having any adverse effects on your motor, that little bit of exhaust gas escaping is nothing compared to the outlet a few inches downstream. Maybe the nameplate and the can are made out of dissimilar metals having a different coefficient of expansion where when the can heats up the rivet is pulled slightly sideways allowing the exhaust gas leakage.
I have a Remus can on my bike and it completely fluffs out the exhaust note. Entirely too civilized for my taste, I detest the sound of Harleys with open pipes but I like a bit of a rasp from a crisp four banger!
Yeah, I love the growl of the staintune. Not too loud, but strong and smooth. The Ztechnik sounds like a monte carlo with one of those 4" tailpipes on it
