guns agin

I am an ex army weapons instructor, retired LEO. I am not allowed to possess even an air rifle. Dont these twits understand that crims do not bother applying for a licence. Senator Brown is the minister for "Against Everything"

the shooting has prompted Greens leader Bob Brown to renew his call for a ban on semi-automatic handguns.

Mr Howard says he is prepared to discuss the issue.

"One of the very first things I did as Prime Minister was achieve a massive additional ban on the use of long arms," he said.

"As far as handguns are concerned, we do have very strict laws, I'm always ready to talk to the state premiers who do have immediate control over these matters about whether they can be and ought to be further strengthened."

But Senator Brown says action needs to be taken immediately.

"I have been campaigning against this since the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, which took semi-automatic rifles largely out of circulation but left these equally lethal hand guns available," he said.

What's the deal, Bert? If guns are banned outright, what good does banning supposedly non-existent semi-autos?

My point exactly Chuck. To obtain a licence for a .22 rifle is some big deal, but can be done. A pistol licence, wow. Govt bought back most of the firearms, (people made a buck there with some old rusted smoke poles) but the crims are still bringing them into the country. The furore in the paper relates to a hells angel member having a punch up with his girl in the CBD. A lawyer going to work and another man tried to assist. One dead, two critical. The hells angel (deliberate lack of capital letters) is on the run after dumping his pistol.

To obtain a licence for a .22 you need proof you are sane, responsible, having access to property where it can be used, and of course a bomb proof safe to keep it in. I believe there is a cooling off period also.

Good grief. I shudder to think about the same thing happening in the USA, and there are sure enough plenty of bleeding heart liberal, commie pinko bastard, politicians who want just that. As it is, I live in California where Hollywood is in charge and gun laws are silly. If I were not married to a woman who can't stand the thought of being outside of kissing range of her kids, I would think hard about blowing this town and head for Nevada, Idaho, Montana, or someplace like that where the sillyness has not quite taken over yet.

You know about what those inflamed rectum politicians in San Francisco tried to do, right? When they passed their little gun ban I just laughed out loud. Unless those idiots plan to erect a wall around their city, strictly regulate entry and exit, then search every single home and confiscate every single gun, there's no chance in hell that any sort of meaningful dent will be made in crime statistics involving firearms.

The only thing a gun ban serves to do is disarm law-abiding citizenry, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Both.

Google "Hells Angles" and/or "Sonny Barger" for a glimpse of their activities.

They're kind of pissed off at Hunter S. Thompson for joining then writing about them in "Hell's Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga".

Personally, I wouldn't want to join any organization that would have me as a member
