Chris, that really hits home!
That road looks like Lockwood Valley Rd. between Frasier Park and Highway 33 in Ventura County Ca.
I once saw what was left of a crotch rocket that had tumbled over many times, from a very high speed. It was sitting straight up on the side of the road, so I assumed the rider had been taken to the hospital and what was left of the bike was worthless so just leave it out there. Many times I think of that sight. The rider could have been in the grass! I should have stopped but I assumed all had been taken care of.
I had been riding up to that area many times at night, to visit my brother. He called me one night after I had left to tell me he had hit a 400 lb. Black Bear. Never saw it and he was in a car with high beams on. Air bags deployed, totaled the car! Could'a been me.
I love riding the K1200GT, good handling, great brakes, and awesome horsepower, but these things can and do happen every day. It is a risk I have chosen to take. (My kids are grown) All I can do is ride reasonably, keep up good maintenance, (thanks to this forum), and hope My Time Has NOT Come
