Are you ready for Obama?

If politics not allowed pls excuse and delete the post.
I am just curious, if you americans are ready for first color person as president. Do not understand I have something against anybody, you are a man or you are not, regardless the color of your skin. I just noticed political environment is more conservative, look at the UK, a lot of color people living there, didn't see any in their top level politics. How do you feel about it?

I think your intuition is correct that this threaddoesn't belong in this forum. You should delete it yourself.

No, Borat was from Kazakistan.

But, frankly speaking, I am also interested in the opinions of our American mates.
Is the "WASP" thangy already gone?
Or is this an agreed "behind the curtain" deal to keep the present ruling party in the White House? As both candidates are really simillar in their speeches. But Democrats do not want to be responcible for the oncoming economic troubles?

Take care!

I dont know too many Americans personally but here in Australia we seem politically and in some ways philosophically linked to the American way, some good some not so good.
From my experience with those that I have met and in the time that I spent there that most Americans are intensely proud of their country and many are unhappy about the current state of affairs both domestically and internationally. For those that care, the international embarrassment that the current administration represents is a dark period in their history
It seems that many of them want change for the better and they want it now.
I dont know if Obama can deliver that but i think the other options look like more of the same to many of them.
So a long story short, I dont think that Obama is the sacrificial pawn, I think they truly rate him as the potential new hope, well half of them anyway.
Im sure we are about to hear what the US cousins think, I saw a poll somewhere on this site and it was heavily McCain weighted.

Content, not skin color

Right up front, I have supporter of John McCain for quite a while and wished he had been President for the last 8 years.

As with any group of people, there are ingrained prejudices against some sub group, unless of course you are Chinese and everything is great. Look at the Olympics.

There will also be a small group of people who will not be able to get beyond Barack’s skin color, as well as a small group who will not get beyond John McCain’s age.

I listened to Obama’s speech last night and he is a fine orator, but never heard what or how he is going to do all this change. I think he reinforced the Pop Star celebrity label last night with that event.

Thanks to the Democratic parties policy of “Let’s be nice to everyone and maybe they will be our friend” we were attacked on 9/11. Perhaps if Clinton was on the job and kicked Osama’s ass after the Cole or first attack on the Trade Centers, we wouldn’t be in Iraq, 3,000 New Yorkers would not have been murdered, and over 3,000 US soldiers would not be KIA. Hey, I like BJs as much as any other guy, but I get my job done.

One thing that gets me about the Republican party is they want small government, individual responsibilities, but then makes a big deal out of Right to Life. It is the woman’s right to have a baby or not have a baby, we have enough orphaned, foster care children running around, we don’t need more unwanted bastards, let the woman exercise her individual right.

The US economy is a very large ship that does not turn on a dime, it takes years for changes to take effect. GDP for the quarter just rose 3%, what recession? The housing market was a bubble and it is popping. Most of the people losing houses are speculators on the bottom of the pyramid or people who could not afford the house to start with. I saw on the news the other day this poor lady who lost her house of 20 years, poor thing refinanced 100% of equity, brought her a Lexus, and just figured she could refinance again for more later as the house kept jumping in value, She couldn’t afford the refinanced mortgage from the beginning and made a very poor financial decision. She is now living out of her Lexus. She could still be living in her home, if she had lived within her means.

Finally, I will vote for John McCain and not Obama. Obama talks about taxing big business and the wealthiest 10%, however time and again that has proven to not raise enough money for all the social programs desired, so the middle class takes it on the chin, and of course big business raises prices, so who pays? The low income and middle class again. Britain tried to tax the hell out of the rich a couple of decades ago, what happened? The rich left as they have means to do so. If Obama gets elected, I hope all those Hollywood celebrities don’t mind paying high taxes to have one of their own in charge.
