Benelli shotguns

I'm in the market for a shotgun. Chosen Benelli for obvious reasons. Cannot decide between M3 and M4 civil version. It will be used for light hunting - birds, rabbits and self defense as well if ever necessary. Anybody has any first hand experience with these?

I own M2 Comfortech 12/76. Bought it mainly for IPSC and occasional hunting/ hare, ducks/. Reliable but a little bit light for my taste. For your reasons M3 would be the right one, imho - it is bulletproof. They all shoot slugs without probs.
M4 is too much of marketing - too heavy as well and overpriced. Also the pistol grip - I do not like it personally, not comfy for fast shooting and that military look - for teenagers, imho.

Take care!

Im sorry Doru, I just dont get it. Its a F- - kin shotgun!
Birds? Rabbits? how hard is it with a shotgun for Christsakes? You can be fully pissed and still not miss a bird or a rabbit with any shotgun as long as you are quiet enough to actually hunt the animal.
Self defence is another matter as Im sure our American Bros will attest to.
They both look nice, but I think Im with Easyman, the M4 looks like a pimp weapon.

I have a lot of time with the M4 in the Marine Corp, and at work now. It's certainly not for hunting animals, it's for hunting men. If you want something for hunting look at the Super Black Eagle with the comfort tech buttstock. Not sure, but if the Ghost ring sights are an option get them they are worth every cent.

I didn't know the USMC was using Benelli shotguns... that's interesting. I don't think we had anything like that when I was on active duty. Nowadays, here I am a county mountie and we're using Remington Model 870's. I own one of the law enforcement versions with the long magazine tube... looks very similar to the pic of the M3.

Given your stated purposes and if I were choosing between the two Benellis, I'd choose the M3. Just me, but I think the M4 would be awkward, heavy and cumbersome as a hunting weapon. Love to have one though, just because it looks so badass.
