Friend in Trouble

Our friend, Tim Shook, a.k.a. Shook Sez, has been having serious medical problems for the past several weeks. He had an aneurysm in an artery in his abdomen start leaking blood into his gut. It wasn't his aorta, but it was still very serious. After experiencing nausea and other symptoms, he went to his local hospital east of Cleveland, and they immediately sent him to the Cleveland Clinic, where he has had 3 operations in all. One was to put in a stint (stent?) to patch the artery. I'm told he had a 15% chance of surviving that one, but the tough old bird pulled through.

Currently he is in a recovery type facility, since his condition is not as dire as it was previously. He has had a tracheotomy, but he now has some additional device that allows him to talk. The worst is over and he is on the mend, but he is still in rough shape. I'm told that he won't be on this site or any other for a while yet.

Several years ago, back when I first discovered that there was an entire community out there of people with motorcycling interests similar to mine, Tim was one of the first people I met. Actually, I met a group of riders in Virginia, and they called Tim on the phone that night because then he was recovering from a heart attack. I spoke with him then, though we had never met, and we hit it off well. I've been riding with him twice a year, spring and fall, with the same group of guys just about ever since then. He is one of the good guys, and he'll be getting my prayers for his complete recovery. I invite you to send out your own best wishes for him also.

If I hear any more, I'll report it.

Spoke with his wife last night. She says he's recovering from the second issue (gall bladder), but has had a tracheotomy to assist his breathing and can't talk just yet. He can tap on the bedside tray, though. He's never been one for letting problems become walls. They don't have a laptop presently so as long as he's in not at home, no internet access. I'll pass on info as it becomes available to me as well, but I won't be calling her again for about a week. I figure the first priority is to get well. He does have gall bladder surgery to look forward to, but that's probably not for another two weeks, allowing him to recover the first surgery and initial gall bladder issue.
