Re the below......These young men ditch their papers in the sea when in sight of my country. This makes it hard to check them out of course, time wasting. Most annoying for them, sorry. Why do we not give them a uniform and send them back to the middle east and let them fight alonside the Australian Army with my relatives and other young men trying to stabilise this dump. Why the hell should these, mostly young men, be given access to all the cash and welfare that we hand out, when our young men are over there fighting for their shithole. (how about that for a bucket of petrol on the campfire)

TEAR gas was used to subdue angry asylum seekers at Christmas Island amid rioting and mass breakouts of immigration detainees.

Immigration Minister Chris Bowen revealed the dramatic tactic had been used as tensions boiled over at the island's detention centre early this morning.

"Damage was done to facilities including fencing, some accommodation and door locks," Mr Bowen said.

A detention centre on an island closer to Indonesia than our mainland is "access to all the cash and welfare that we hand out"?

Given Italy had 5000 Tunisian refugees in one week of the troubles in Nth Africa I really don't see what our issue with about 1-2000 per annum is

disagree

There are ten houses in my street, one is occupied by Australians, mine. I drove past the local school, all the kids being escorted to school were accompanied by muslims. At Shepparton they are given houses with furniture which they sell. They get unemployed benefits and a hardship allowance. My point is still relevant. Why are all these young men coming here. To defend this country?

Australia rightly has a cap on the number of refugees it receives each year.
You can debate the size of that number but a cap is necessary in a country that is struggling to support 20 million people with water and infrastructure. This is not Italy.
For every one of these boat people that arrive, another refugee who has followed the procedure and has been approved as bonofide and who is sitting in a refugee camp somewhere, often for years, gets bumped down the cue.
That refugee hasnt had the money from their previous life to pay thousands of dollars to criminal people smugglers as these boat smuggled refugees have.
I say put them straight on a plane back to their country of origin, eliminate the opportunity for the smugglers and do all we can to expedite the process for those who folowed it and respected it as being OUR process.
Welcome them, help them assimilate and foster them to contribute to their newly chosen society.
Dont create cultural slums in the name of multi culturalism, if they want to come to Australia it is to be Australians, not to participate and populate some Arab welfare and crime funded enclave.
Just my 2c worth.
