F1 trouble in Austin

http://www.gptoday.com/full_story/vi...the_F1_market/

These people are crazy with greed. Hotel prices never like this when the race was at Indy. And, the F1 trip organizers are right. If, it comes to a choice of attending a race in Austin or Monaco (went in 1972!) and Monaco is cheaper, guess where I would go?

I was stationed in Italy with the USAF. Bought the best tickets that I could. Sat on the harbor side for practice and qualifying. Then at the top of the hill, just before the casino square for the race. The day after the race, my girlfriend and I drove up to Paris for a few days. I took the mountain roads out of town and got behind a Pantara with my Alfa. My hands had blisters from shifting and steering by the time the road mellowed out. One of my favorite memories! Still, have the race program and tickets. Went to Monza the following year.
My first F1 race was in 1967 at the Glen. Been a fan ever since.

I hope they don't screw the pooch with this one. It was a nice looking track from what I saw on last years race, plenty of passing, and some distinctive track features.

It's not Spa, but not bad at all.
