Who knows about sat phones? I'm toying with the idea of getting one to throw in a bugout bag, but the prices are outrageous, and I am not happy about the cost of airtime either.
I've looked at used phones in the area of $500 to $600, and I guess I might be OK with that. The prepaid airtime is the plan I would like... I don't want a service provider subscription monthly bill. But I also don't want my prepaid airtime minutes to expire down the road when I've never used them. What I have in mind is a prepaid airtime SIM that is in the phone and then can be activated by calling with the satphone itself, a year or two (or five) later, which then starts the airtime service with the expiration date. Is that possible?
