Where To Hold a Rally?

Would like to have some ideas on where to hold a rally. Here are some of the criteria we are trying to meet:
  • Spring 2007, so that temperatures are reasonable and weather systems a bit more accommodating.
  • Assuming that we would have people coming from the four corners of the United State, some consideration should be giving to location. And while Columbus, NE may be near the geographic center of the U.S. Columbus, NE has been ruled out.
  • Ride to and from important, but not paramount. Letís face it, canít have great rides all of the way and to be honest we usually can find some good part of a ride.
  • Decent hotels, motels, eateries, are important. Doesnít have to be 5 star accommodations but should be decent enough that spouses donít get upset
  • When there, assuming a 2-4 day rally, there should be accommodations for those who want camping, tent camping, as well a good hotel/motel accommodations
  • When there good riding important, but not paramount. Most of will have ridden quite a bit to get there so perhaps the socializing, etc. will be as important and the riding while there secondary.
  • Area should be motorcycle friendly within reason.
  • A high probability of good weather also important; who wants to sit in the rain for 4 days

Well, maybe an almost impossible task, but for those great travelers, Iíd love to share some of your experience?

Hi John,

How exactly do you define "Spring" ?

Late April ? Early to mid May ?

The timeframe can make a significant difference as to where a rally
could be.

For instance, I've been to gatherings in Elkins, WVa, Blowing Rock NC,
Black Mountain, NC and Marietta, Oh. in late April. Last year we actually
rode out to New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. It was a nine day
trip, but we didn't leave back east here til the 5th of May.

I really like the S.E.Ohio area. It's everything you asked about IF ya time
it right.

Mid-late May, early June before school lets out and summer vacation traffic clogs things up. Mid-May sounds good, just prior to Memorial Day, perhaps.

Thanks for you input, very much.

Marietta, Oh has everything you need.

So do several spots in Arkansas.

There are some VERY nice roads in Missouri too.

I'd stay away from Michigan though.

Hmmm,
Missouri not bad. Got Lake of the Ozarks, Branson, Bass Pro for the women . Trying to give some consideration about where people come from. I know one couple coming from WA. Good idea...thanks Tim.

I would have to vote for big MO as well. That said, Kentucky is nice as well, and not often considered as a stop so it it may not have been as frequented as MO.

One last idea may be Kansas. There are some neat sites like Dodge City, and the location is good too.

North Georgia Mountain Rally is held in Hiawassee,Ga. in late April or early May every year. Good location at Bald Mtn campground. One problem is the weather, usually cold and wet, but about 20-30 % of the time it is just right. A rally a little later would be better, say late May or Early June in most southern states, I would think Missouri would be the same.
