Google

So, today is Memorial Day. The default page that my browser opens up to is Google, and when I fire up my computer here at home this morning, what do I see? Nothing. Just like Veteran's Day.

Needless to say, the opening page has been changed. Permanently. And when I get back to work tomorrow, I'll be changing the computers there, too.

I'm assuming he's expecting top see the special holiday google graphics. Instead of suffering in silence, let Google know about it. http://www.google.com/intl/en/contact/index.html

Nah. One would think that they know what day it was and would not need to be prompted. But that's okay - their position is quite clear to me, and my best course of action is not to complain excessively, but simply to take my business/patronage somewhere else.

So your going to fault a company for doing what they believe in?

Or do you wish all Americans could just roll along behind the next, awaiting the cliff?

I for one am thankful that such a preeminent company, in a society spending BILLIONS on killing and far less on EDUCATION and/or so many other true needs, would have the good will to make a statement like that... though it's so subtle I'd never have known it without your post.

We homosapiens have had very few societies not dominated by a warrior class, one wonders what our lives could be like, if we weren't.

And please realize, I'm a 20 year U.S. Navy veteran, as my Dad was, and my son in presently serving... so don't think I don't have the right to speak on the subject.

These are just my views... my two cents as it were. I have no problem if you disagree.

Kevin

The opinions of any one person or corporation about the legitimacy of the U.S. Armed Forces or the conflicts they have been involved in isn't the point. The people in uniform who came before us who gave their lives in service to this country, and those that survived to come home, resume their lives, and have finally left us is what Memorial Day is all about. Without their sacrifices, the world as we know it now would likely be a much different place, and in all likelihood, far darker.

But as I said, it's perfectly okay if Google disagrees with me and doesn't particularly care for the men and women of the military - I'll simply find another outfit to patronize that does. After all, it's a free country, right? (courtesy of the U.S. Armed Forces)

It might be nice to entertain fantasies about how you think the world might be better in the absence of a "warrior class", but the reality of human nature dictates a need for them. That our armed forces are not our rulers, as is the case in a number of other countries, is something that makes them even more deserving of respect.

I agree, I think Google should have had something there. They cover many other holidays.

I do not support the war, but do support the troops (lets argue that later please)
BUT
We still went and did our part. I had posted this elsewhere, perhaps some here will enjoy it too.

***************************************

We went Saturday and did our part in making the local National Cemetery look right. I do not always agree with WHY our boys/girls in uniform are fighting, BUT I always support them when they are. My whole family helped out. This was the third year for the older Scout and the first for my younger one AS an official Scout.

It is important to teach the next generation to respect the sacrifices that the generations before made so that we can have it so well. EVERY GRAVE gets a flag here before anyone leaves. It was very moving, with some great speeches and displays.

This Cemetery goes fully back to the civil war. It was donated for use of both the Union and Confederate dead but many of the south did not want their dead buried next to union soldiers so there are only 3 there I believe.
