it is hard for me to imagine how they built some of that stuff that long ago

Do a search on the internet for Newgrange, County Meath...predates the Egyptian Pyramids by a couple of thousand years.
Above the door is a small opening which allows the sun to shine through and into the floor of the burial chamber 20m inside the mound. This can only happen on the Winter Solstice. Truely awe inspiring feat of engineering.
