Police Week Ride - Wash DC

I did the annual COPS Ride in DC today, as I have for several years. The numbers were down compared to past years, but that was probably due to the predictions of rain. There were quite a few Beemers that made a showing.

For those of you who haven't done the ride before, it's always set on Sunday at the beginning of Police Memorial Week. If for no other reason, one can actually ride through the streets of DC along the route unimpeded by vehicle traffic, something that's a rarity there! Motor units from police departments all over the country ride in for the week and participate. Albuqurque, NM has an all BMW unit, as did one county from TX.

It's a good time to visit the Fallen Officer's Memorial and see all the names on the walls and the honor guards. As an added bonus, with that many police in DC the average citizen can feel pretty secure.

I was wondering what was going on when I saw a parade of bikes head'n south bound on a very much speed enforced stretch of RT 301 lead by a couple of Md's 'Finest' on BMW's

How about you give us a heads-up on this event next year. DC is a great town to ride.

The ride is always on Mother's Day. The meet location has been the Natl. Guard Armory lot right by RFK stadium. The bikes start pulling out of the lot for the memorial @1100. I'll be sure to post the info next year!
