Many of us have had an experience where time seems "frozen", and many thoughts pass through our heads in just a few seconds. Maybe an accident, a crisis, a national tragedy. Tonight I had such an experience..
I was on my way home on a local freeway, on my K12RS. Speed was about 65 mph and I was in the far right lane. There is a 12 ft sound wall along the right shoulder on that particular section of freeway. I noticed that ahead, on the opposite side of the freeway there were some VERY bright lights coming from a night time construction area, and many trucks, D.O.T. workers, etc.
I told myself that I should be looking ahead, and not across the freeway. At that moment, as I turned my head back into my lane, time froze. Moving up between me and the soundwall, on the shoulder, was some clown on a bike! No headlights! Dressed in black!
I sucked in a breath...should I move? Is it clear in the next lane? As he pulled up directly alongside of me I recognized him. I've gone on a number of daytime rides with him, and his riding skills are comparable to mine. I exhaled. I giggled. He rode ahead of me and out of sight.
When I got home to my driveway, which has some rather large floodlights, he once again appeared. Parking his bike next to mine simultaneously, removing our helmets in unison, and laughing at each other for a second time this night.
But...for that brief moment I held my breath...well...it happened to me...not you.
