I love riding in the Fall

Met up with a few of my buds this past weekend.
We get together twice a year, a small group that
originally met way back in the early days of I-BMW.

This particular trip took place in an area with the
absolute best roads east of the Mississippi river.

West Virginia? Nope, although the roads there are
mighty fine.

Virginia? Nope, but those roads are nice too.

North Carolina and north Georgia? Nope, but those are
both areas I like to ride in.

Deals Gap ?? Please, Deals Gap is the single most
over-rated road in the country....strike that, the world.
No wait, Deals Gap is the single most over-rated piece
of pavement in the KNOWN UNIVERSE. It's for posers
and H-D kinda peeps.

I'm here to tell you guys that if you want good pavement,
almost non existent ( outside of small towns ) LEO's, hills,
curves, no chrome trains in your way,you name it..........
you need to be in s.e.Ohio.

We home-based in Marietta, Oh for three nights. Most of
us arrived Thursday evening, we all left Sunday morning.
Friday and Saturday were spent racking up a total of a little
over 550 miles, and other than jumping on the interstate to
get from one exit to another I'm betting we didn't see so much as a
quarter of a mile of straight, flat road the whole time. You can go
out the door of your motel and in five minutes be on the kind of roads
you only dream of. You'll leave at dawn and ride all day til you
have to be home cuz the streetlights came on, and you'll be whipped
for all the curves you played on. and then you sit around the motel
drinking beer til waaaaayy late, get up the next morning and do it again.

Do yourselves a favor. Take a weekend and do southeast Ohio.
You'll be back.

555 was about the most mundane of the roads we were on.

Rtes. 556, 536, 147, 148 and especially Rt. 26 absolutely rocked !

That whole area is awesome.

And you wouldn't believe the CORN!

Yep, I have to agree with the host of ShookFest II: S.E. Ohio is a great place to ride. It doesn't have long ascents or descents like you get in the mountains, but it has more hills than Carter has pills, and the roads aren't cut through them, they are just laid over top of them. Consequently I think the total elevation-change for a day is a lot more than riding in the mountains, where they put as much road as possible on the valley floor.

Shook, you neglected to mention that we got the cops called on us Friday night. I guess we were just too wild for Marietta (or whatever her name was). No arrests, but Shook, with his superior firepower, came closest.

I guess I should have expected something like this. Some people can't handle authority responsibly. Go pick on MOTOR.

You bet. You really can NOT go wrong anywhere east of I-77
and south of I-70. That whole corner of the state is one huge
roller coaster ride.

You'll really need to watch your speed in the small towns though.
Two of our esteemed colleagues got performance awards.

We are heading out this Friday to Morgantown WV, on t Roanoke VA on Saturday, then Carter Caves in Kentucky on Sunday. Home through western Ohio on Monday. Hopefully we won't get too wet! The weather reports are scary right now.
