Three Pass Ride II

Came back last night from our second annual Three Pass Ride. Rode with the same two friends as last year, Blake and Richard. Here's a map of the loop:

Since it was going to be a long day (415 miles for me), we met up at 7:20am and hit the road. First stop was Sue's Angels Creek Cafe in Angels Camp, as last year.

We stopped at Mosquito Lake again for a quick pic. Didn't see swartzwel swimming there this time...

On the downhill side of Ebbitts Pass, someone had painted in some detail to a rock that looked like a fish:

Blake checked to see if the fish was hungry...

A scenic pullout on the way down from Ebbitts Pass:

This is the time of year to make this ride; after the leaves turn and before the passes get closed. We lucked out on the weather; it was beautiful, and not cold...

At the junction of Hwy 4 and Hwy 89. My bike's facing the direction from which we came:

Looking back up the road after going through Monitor Pass:

We pulled over here right after going through Sonora Pass at 9,628 feet...

Richard and Blake kept themselves busy while I took pictures...

Blake took a pic of his bike at a pullout farther down the mountain. He's got a good eye for photography and was enjoying using the camera...

Blake shot this log that was blending in with the granite:

Further on down, the first one looking back the way we came...

What mountain pass is complete without one's motorcycle?

A typical scene on Hwy 108...

A stop in Strawberry for a snack. Sasquatch watched our bikes...

A sun dog watched me on the ride home...

That looks familiar. Avitar (no pic on this machine) just happens to be taken from a different angle...

Thanks for the great pictures! I am really getting bored with the flat, straight roads in Florida. Someday I will make it there.

Hey, you're in my turf now!

Just moved to Minden, NV. Ride Monitor Pass, Ebbets Pass, Sonora Pass, Carson Pass, Spooner Pass, and Kingsbury Grade often! FletchTech and I did the same loop you did last month and met Razel in Arnold on 4 at the Snowshoe Brewing Company.

Next time you're on 4, stop at Big Trees / Calaveras state park, pay the fee, and take a 1 - hour hike through the Giant Redwoods there. Makes a great stop. Snowshoe Brewing Company also has a restaurant in Sonora which is a great place for lunch.

Sierra Cement: Good for skis, bad for knees.
