The Land That Time Forgot.. Last Seasonal Pics..

Unless you live in St. Louis or hell, where there are no trees, most of you know by now that the trees have peaked and leaves are falling like Republican tears.. I hate to see winter coming, dammit..This is my favorite time of year to ride..

Ever seen the movie.. “The Land That Time Forgot”? Well..we’ve got our own version here in NC. About 20 minutes from the crib, up over the mountain and back down Hwy 74A there’s a small place called Chimney Rock and Lake Lure.. It’s a geographical anomaly, being sheltered from the north winds by high cliffs on 3 sides. The area is kinda like Gatlinburg 30 years ago before it turned into the garish tourist whore that it is today. Picture high cliff walls surrounding a clean man-made lake with a small snakelike river flowing parallel to the main road with no more than a dozen “privately owned” motels and half a dozen restaurants scattered around. You can drive through the area in about 4 minutes.. it’s small.. VERY scenic..and an expensive place to live. The mayor rides a BMW twin.

While the trees are brown and bland at virtually all higher altitudes, Lake Lure is still spectacular... the last hold-out of the season... Natures seasonal procrastinator. Fall’s last stand, if you will. Lately, my K1200S seems to head that way every time I pull out of the driveway Partially because it’s 12 miles of nothing but perfect curves, but also because she fears the good riding days are numbered.... and who am I to deprive her of one of the last few dances of the year..?

DYL rode up from Robbinsville the other day and we made a short run down there for a sandwich at the Margarita Grill overlooking the lake. Good times..good view. great french fries. I went back today as the temps will be dropping over the next 3 days with rain already moving in. I suspect all the color will be gone before I can get back... Hate to see it go as it has been the prettiest fall I have ever seen...Even though I always wear earplugs, I can already hear the faint sound of the winter blues...

I know most of you are tired of me posting pics of my bike, but... I couldn’t resist a few last shots of this beauteous season...I promise they’ll be the last for a while.

Coming over the mountain towards Lake Lure...

Thanks for those pics Pirate. Here in WI that is what is was supposed to look like a few weeks ago, but with dry weather and a sudden hard frost all of the leaves just turned brown and fell off.

Hey Pirate! Where do you get the idea there aren't many trees in St. Louis?

Talking

I lived there was one excruciating year.... The city is totally devoid of beauty... or trees.. Without the Arch, which is magnificent.. I would swear the place is hell. I wouldn't go back if Angelina Jolie were waiting for me naked .. in bed.. with her twin sister...with a bottle of warm Astroglide ..and a bowl full of percodans...

and people wonder why BMW of St. Louis went out of biz... It's because it was located in St. Louis.

Can you tell that I'm not particularly fond of the city?
