North Carolina to Texas

Hello, all. I am planning a trip from western North Carolina to Dallas, Texas the first week of July. I'll be visiting friends for a few days in Dallas who have a second home here in North Carolina. Their frequent trips back and forth have given them a great many ideas about the best routes, etc., but they don't ride and I'd like the perspective of folks who do.

Any ideas? I'd like to stay off the interstate as much as possible, I'd like to ride the Natchez Trace, and I'd like to stop in Vicksburg.

Thanks for your help.

Any of the back roads in NW Ark.
Hwy. 7, south of Harrison Ark.
Talimena Scenic Drive (Hwy. 1) Mena Ark. to Talihena Ok.

Those roads may be too far north unless you travel the Trace from south to north.
Natches area has some nice Antebellum.

Try to spend a few days in the Texas Hill Country.

If you pass three KRS's and an RT, give us a wave. We're headed to the Dragon the last week of June and part of July from the TX Panhandle. Look for a Taxi, a Zebra, and Piedmont Red KRS, along with a black RT. Drive safe and COOOOL!!!

Get a vest that you can water down and carry a large Zip Lock bag for it. Check out www.newenough.com

Cycleport mesh

I rode nearly 300 miles in Louisiana in 95 degree heat this weekend. I was comfy in my cycleport pants and jacket and my held summer gloves.

The only advice is to keep moving. I had to take a ferry to cross the MS river and got pretty warm during that time.

If you get anywhere near New Orleans give me a buzz and I'll buy you a diet coke or a powerade!

Best,

Gravity
