Question Another Blue Ridge & Skyline Parkway Question

I'm planning on riding both the Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkways this spring. I'm planning on starting on the north end (on a Monday) and working my way down to Deal's Gap. I'm thinking of spending the night at Peaks of Otter which looks like almost 400 miles to Deal's Gap.

If I leave Peaks of Otter at sunrise, would I make it to Deal's Gap before sunset or should I add an over-night stop in there somewhere?

Peaks, mp 86. Cherokee, NC, mp 469. Avg 50mph (that's hauling, btw) you'll make it. Take a left on US 441 in Cherokee, then right onto US 74, then right on NC 28 to Deal's Gap. I'd stay at Tapaco Lodge, unless you like squids doing burnouts in the Deals' Gap Motel until 2:30am. BTDT.

I don't have time to link these, but if you overnight, Pisgah Inn at mp 408 - or - Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground on US 276 north.

more info later .................

Blue Ridge Parkway

I did Smoky Mt, Blue Ridge and Skyline in 2 1/2 days this past fall..but the traffic was light. Spring time maybe a different 'animal'..

FYI...Closures
Two short sections of the Parkway are closed for road and tunnel repair. Milepost 317-325 south of Linville Falls, and Milepost 344-355 north of Mount Mitchell State Park will remain closed throughout the winter. Access to Mount Mitchell is still available from the Asheville area. Weather-related closures are updated daily at the park information line, (828) 298 0398.

However the section around MP 317-325 is supposed to be repaired by spring

Thanks.

I'm going to add an overnight stay at the Pisgah Inn. That'll give me a around 320 miles from Peaks to Pisgah which sounds a lot better. And thanks for the tip about Deals' Gap Motel, I didn't even think about that.

Here's my plan so far...

Day1 - SAT - Wisconsin to Elyra, OH (389mi)
Day2 - SUN - Elyra, OH to Fort Royal, VA (352mi)
Day3 - MON - Fort Royal, VA to Peaks of Otter (192mi)
Day4 - TUE - Peaks of Otter to Pisgah Inn (318mi)
Day5 - WED - Pisgah Inn to Deals Gap (119mi)
Spend afternoon at the dragon then Cherohala Skyway to Telico Plains then 68 & 74 to Chattanooga (my brother's house).
Day6 - THU - Still working on route home (690mi)

Check out the links below for more info. The Parkway will be closed at US221. Take US221 south to US226 at the bottom of the mountain. Turn right onto US226, then straight on US226a. You only miss a few miles of Parkway, and US226a is superb. Enjoy.

More info here:
US226a, Pisgah Inn, Blue Ridge Cycle Campground

Little Switzerlan Cafe

Blue Ridge Parkway Detour
