Thumbs up

Kenny-
Check the Ride Planning over at www.bmwsporttouring.com next month and post for anyone leaving from your area. A large group of folks from S.D. will be making it for sure and sometimes a few others leave from Brown's Motor Works in Pomona, ask the parts manager, Fernando about it.
Usually, we hook up with a few other riders from our area and ride together but it all depends on their timing. Some extend the trip for a few days and others like myself leave LA Thursday evening from work and meet people along the way on Friday morning for the ride into Torrey.
If your at the Shell station in Mesquite, on the eastside of the Hwy, at around 8:30 AM or earlier Friday, you'll always find someone gasing up that's going there and you can ride with them.
They're all great people so don't hesitate to introduce yourself and let them know you want to tag along. They'll welcome ya with open arms.
PS-Be prepared to ride at a fairly quick pace if you hook up with us. Most of us have radar detectors on broad. Make sure that you have a good set of tires, those roads in Utah chew up tires easily.

Smile

As of today's count we have 51 people going so far from 14 different states and the majority of them are from Calif.
Anyone from over here still thinking about joining us? It should be more beautiful then the past ones because there's been a lot of rain up there over the summer so it's pretty green around there and the weather's been perfect lately, but that can change overnite as your can imagine.
Pack some rain gear if your going just to be on the safe side.

Going

Yesterday the Chuckwagon Hotel called and said they have a room so I'm going. To be honest I was afraid to go by myself, but I'm going even if it is by myself. Had a hard time signing into the thread mentioned above BMWSPORTOURING. I will call Brown Motorsports today. I'm leaving thursday & returning sunday.
see you on the road

Thanks

Thanks for the invite. I planned/planning on leaving thursday early am. I think its an 11 to 12 hour ride to the hotel from los angeles, and my reservation starts thursday evening. If I'm tired and there is a room available I will stay the night in Mesquite & join you for the ride friday am. I'm on a blue K1200S.
ride safe

Have a nice ride up and be careful in the Mt's just south of Torrey on 12 at sunset. There's snow on them already and the Deer & Cows start crossing the roads around that time of the day.
That's why I start from Vegas early on Friday instead of making it all the way in one day. It's exhausting for me if I do it in one day and I really need to be fresh when I go through those Mt. passes to enjoy them.

Here's what a friend saw when going through those Mt's one evening.
" A couple of years back we got delayed replacing a flat tire mid trip and spent the last hour of my ride to Torrey in the dark. To say there was a buttload of deer on the roadway would be an understatement. I had to come to complete stops several times due to multiple deer occupying the roadway who weren't so fast to get out of the way. Including one buck that decided to charge me with the pointy ends of his antlers and I had to jump on the gas to get out of his way. In that hour, we saw somewhere around a total of 30 deer on the roadway or shoulder. This was on route 12 south of Torrey which tends to have more wildlife on it, but still be careful none the less."

PS - Remember you lose an hour due to the Mt Time set back.

You talked me into it

OK, if you don't mind, where are you staying in Vegas or Mesquite? I will call and move my reservation out one day. I like the idea of being fresh for the mountain pass, plus I forgot about the hour time loss. I would have to leave LA at 3 or 4 AM! This would definitely make me one wired/tired rider at the pm.
thanks again & in advance

I'm leaving after work from the valley on Thursday and heading up to my friends place in Boulder City for the night. We usually head out from there at or before 8AM and make a short stop at the gas station at the raceway just outside Vegas to drain all the coffee we just had back in Boulder. Then were back on the road to the Shell station in Mesquite, gasing up at around 8:30 - 9. We hang around there for a little while after we gas up but not that long.

Places are cheap in Mequite and the gas station is right there on the east side of the Hwy. That way you can sleep in a little.

Keep in mind that we travel pretty fast if you do decide to join us.
We usually stop for breakfast an hour or so from Mequite depending on witch route we decide to take, sometimes it's up in Cedar City or Mt. Carmel.
