October 6, 2007: Anyone up for a 3 Passes Ride?

I rode over Monitor and Carson Passes this weekend (9/30) and encountered snow / slush / ice in the shady corners. Winter's coming and the passes will be closed soon, not to re-open until next May or July.

I haven't ridden over Sonora this year, so I'm thinking a ride on 10/6 to go over Monitor (Hwy 89), Sonora (Hwy 108), and returning over Ebbets (Hwy 4) or Carson Pass (Hwy 88).

I'm thinking lunch in Sonora, around 12:30 or 1:00-ish.

Anyone up for a late season ride?

Sierra Cement: Good for skis, bad for knees.

Yo!
I'm good at least for the lunch in Sonora. May have someone riding with me that could be interested in taking 88 east to 89, then over to 395 and 108, for lunch. He may want the short path, which would bee-line into Sonora. I'll know more after Tuesday.

Hi Rich,

I may be up for it, although I was considering the River City Beemers 5 passes ride on the 14th - that may be a bit late this year based on recent weather - (we've had some rain down here.)

I could meet up with you in Sonora also

Ed

CalTans site says Sonora Pass is closed due to snow. Looks like I'm gonna bag this ride.

Freakin winter is interfering with my rides... :wtf

Bummer...how 'bout 395-89-88-49? Maybe I'll check 89 and 88 out first...

edit: Nevermind. Chains or snowtires or 4WD w/snow tires required.

Pah! 120 is out for the season, too. Three-pass rides suspended until next spring.

Went up to Arnold today with a guy on an Aprillia who needed to get some idea of what a ride more than 1 hour was like. Turned out to be a good day for a ride. Ebbets was open, but Tioga and Sonora were still closed. I kind of doubt that those will open again this year. No idea what Ebbets was like, no chain controls, but no idea of what kind of ice patches and sand was there. May just have to suck it in and plan a South Lake Tahoe lunch (or somewhere between South Lake Tahoe and Placerville...)
