In addition to Yosemite and S.F. my wife wants to see wine country.

Any of you guys able to recommend a reasonably priced
hotel/motel/B&B in Napa valley?

My wife and I have stayed at the Hennessey House in downtown Napa twice and we love it. There are 4 rooms in a seperate building (used to be a barn I think) and 6 rooms in the main house. The staff is excellent and the food is incredible. It's close enough to walk to restaurants for dinner downtown also.

Look at the Vintage Inn in Yountville. It's OK, and breakfast is great.

I don't stay in the Napa Valley as we live 20 min from Sonoma and 35min from Napa. As long as you will be there-check out both Sonoma and Napa. Actually, downtown Sonoma is more "small town" than downtown Napa. Rt 29 goes up and down Napa Valley-winerys on both sides of the road. Just a little east of Rt 29 is a less traveled road called Silverado Trail road. Boutique winerys all along-some really nice-Staggs Leap comes to mind. Other choices are Yountville and Calistoga( Berringer is just north of Yountville) -old towns with lots of winerys. Oh, don't forget the Alexander Valley. Went for a short ride yesterday am-turned out to be 160miles-all around that area--all back roads with some of the best California winerys. Don't do much tasting while riding. Guess i'm says don't limit yourself to "Napa".

Thanks guys, keep those suggestions coming.

I'm driving the car out to California, should at least be able to bring
some wine back with me.

Take your wife to lunch or dinner at The French Laundry in Yountville, CA.

If you don't, you're a cheapskate not worthy of the Roundel!

Why yes !!

Yes, I am.

Not to worry though, I'll be in the VW. Nobody will suspect me
of owning a BMW.

I'm at least gonna have to walk by this place, you're
the second person to have recommended it to me.

What!! You own a VW Bugatti Voyetra too?

Now we'll all know you're really a cheap S.O.B. if you don't take the little lady to dinner there.

I'll drop you a clue:
Lunch used to be the same price as dinner so don't try to pull that Switch-a-Roo. It won't work. The price is "per-person" less drinks.
Two people? Maybe about the price of three BMW oil-change services so it shouldn't be too bad. Okay, maybe a valve adjustment too.

I see they took off the daily menu and price too. Wonder why?

If you want a nice place to stay, try the Chateau Du Sureau in Oakhurst, CA. Then she'll really be impressed.

Hint: It's cheaper to eat there at The Elderberry House on the grounds than The French Laundry.

(if you have to ask...)
