Lake Tahoe

I was thinking of something along the lines of the THCR. No formal rides, but suggested routes and that sort of thing. Wasn't thinking of an organized dinner. I kind of like the way it was done at the THCR. folks would just announce "lost maples for lunch today" and lots of riders would show up there. I think that I'd have to ride around this summer and find good eating spots that won't break everyone. Ride the roads that I am suggesting myself so I can rate it as a hard ride, not for beginners or a nice easy ride with plenty of gentle curves; things like that. There are roads there that if you run off the road there is a drop of a thousand or more feet. The area around the lake has plenty of nice roads but they are so clogged with tourists that the only reason to go there would be to gamble or to eat or perhaps stay at a hotel. The roads that radiate out from those roads are great though. I'm thinking it will take most of this year to properly prepare routes and eateries etc. There are of course a ton of California K1200 riders so we'd have a hell of a contingent from this state.

I'm all for a get together but you may want to consider that tahoe on the weekends is essentially a parking lot. It would be better to base out of Reno or truckee or Nevada City or some other location that is not so congested. Some place that is not quite in the tourist zone. Those of us who live in the area NEVER ride tahoe on the weekends.

When it comes to weekend riding the best areas are north of tahoe, 89, 70, 44. Even on the weekends they are not so congested. The passes to the south are always crowded with tourists and the dreaded motorhomes.

Just an FYI.

Cheers,

Mike

Exclamation

Or even west of the lake, if there's a good spot. It'd be a blast to take 4, 89, 108, 120, 88 over "The Hill". Just have to find a place with good rooms, and some places with good eats.

Will be moving to Minden or Carson City, NV (just east of Lake Tahoe) by the end of the year. Happy to help scout around or provide support during the round-up.

Thumbs up Around the Lake.

I also would be glad to check out some places as the area is close to me for some fine dining and nice rides. I recomend the Wentworth Springs road to the mountain lakes such as Loon, Ice House, Union Valley, Wrights, Echo, and of course The Parking Lot, Tahoe but only during the week for Tahoe. I know if at least 2 good eaterys in the Georgetown area.

Looking toward spring to meet up with riders from anywhere to ride the NORCAL area.

Ride Safe.

After this past weekend, this could be a fun project. Sonora for lunch after a ride on 108, 49 or 4. 120 is also a good road, but it's $10.00 to go through the park (Yosemite).
Need to explore more, though.

I live in th El Dorado Hills area and would definately be up for some group riding. Just did a Tahoe area north starting from incline with about 20 bikes last weekend - it was awesome. FYI http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/mvnfor...ad?thread=2633

There are some great roads in the foothills but Hwy 49 is CRAWLING with cops - just rode some of it yesterday and saw cops staked out about every 5 to 10 miles and sitting in every little town, seriously must have seen over 20 per 100 miles. CHP, Sherriffs, local police with mucho speed traps.

Wentworth Springs and Icehouse as suggested above are excellent, as are many others in the ED National Forest- but I would avoid 49 - it's a tourist route with lots of resdences/businesses and is HEAVILY patrolled.
