Hi all,

Be warned to check that you purchase the "C" type Metzeler Z8 for your K1200GT. I had no idea there was a choice and the local tyre supplier fitted a pair of the non "C". They were near impossible to track straight. They agreed to replace at no charge the rear with a "C" but said the front would be ok. Sure there was a marked improvement in handling but not 100% so after complaining again it was discovered they didn't order any fronts in "C". To get me out of trouble and mobile again I bought a Bridgestone BT023 from a competitor and although not ideal it is acceptable. Our local BMW agent has taken the importer to task and has demanded regular supply as the Z8 "C" is recommended by BMW Germany.

I have Roadtec's on my new (to me) 2008 GT. As our choices are limited here in UnZud, better get it right.

I bought from Motomart in Wellington last weekend. Rode back up on Sunday via Wanganui. It was a joy, though a bit uncomfortable after the LT. I'll get used to it. About 1/3rd of the trip was in the wet and I thought the bike went very well. It only slid a bit twice and that was in the dry on tar snakes (I think) so I have no complaints about that essential capability ... good wet weather handling.

I have some questions about the roughness of the motor/clutch, but other than that, after the timing chain thingy is done, I'm all set. A big plus is the daily lane split in the arvo from Mt Wellington to the bridge... wow, its just find the gap and keep going, a luxury after the nerve racking lane split on the LT.

Hi Ralph,
I had a 2000 R1100RS before my K1200GT. I absolutely love the K and other than a little tyre issue that Sebastian at Experience has dealt with all is pretty good. We are off on a 15 day romp around the South Island and are really looking forward to it. I have always received great service from Henry, Neil and Sebastian at Experience. These guys are so passionate about the brand and they sure do know their stuff. I am in Auckland too so do I presume you are a member of the BMW Owners Register? If not come back to me and I'll introduce you to the guys.

Cycletraders have 'B' rated PR3's

Thanks Alex...

I checked with Cycletraders in Takapuna and they have 'B' rated PR3's (rear) so that is what I am going to try next. I see a lot of positive comments on PR3 handling in the rain, not so positive comments on the wear pattern of PR2's where the compounds join (probably similar on PR3s).

Yes, pretty happy with Experience, did try and buy from them, but the RT on offer wasn't to my liking (though a beautiful looking bike) and they had no 2nd hand GS's or GT's so when one came up, it was in Wellington. I try and support the dealer, especially with a brand like BMW with so little representation. I have forked out plenty of the folding stuff there on the LT so they weren't too unhappy, me having talked with them first.

I did join the BMWOR (it has lapsed), but I am kinda not usually into group rides. I do like riding with one, maybe two others on occasion though... I find the difference in riding styles, distance expectations and how to handle double-yellows and lanesplitting varies greatly.

Metzler Z8

Just purchased a K1600GT and is fitted with Z8's.I only have 1600km on the clock so far but must admit the Z8's appear to be pretty good tyres. Will update when I have a few more km's on them.
