In the end I didn't take the bike out on Sunday. This was because I'd had virtually no sleep on Saturday night because I was 'doing things' on the computer, including preparing some draft tickets for a forthcoming event for checking at the TVAM meeting on Sunday morning. Also I was out to lunch with a 'new friend' and heard it could be wet for my return journey, and boy was it. West Swindon to Reading on the M4, and going at 50-60 seemed very sensible for most of the time.
I did use the K1200RS today to go to Oxford for the lectures of my 'MSc in Web Technologies' degree, and it was fun (the ride). On returning I found that my dipped beam had gone so had to travel about 8 miles to a garage on either side light or main beam, depending on the presence of oncoming traffic.
All fixed now and the rest of the journey was better lit.
My last bike was a K100RS (D reg) so know what you mean about riding it all year round. I did over the 12+ years I had it. The K1200RS (S reg) doesn't have as good heated grips.
Have a good week.
