I have another address that's not gmail and it accepted that one.
OK, here's the deal.. In the world of spam artistes, gmail appears to be the address of choice. At one point we were literally getting several posts a day from bots using
gmail addresses, all of them trying to sell you gay sex, donkey sex, regular sex, sex with chocolate coating ( but, vitamin fortified ) Viagra, other drugs and Honda motorcycles.
It got to the point that every time an admin logged on, he'd have to spend 10-15 minutes deleting ads, sweeping up after these morons and taking out the trash afterwards.
So, we three got together over virtual beers one day and arbitrarily decided to block any and all gmail addresses from being able to register on their own.
As Emeril would say...BAM !! Junk mail dropped drastically, we got to talk motorcycle stuff and you the member could leave your computer on K-Bikes when the kids are around.
But Tim, you say, what about the legitimate gmail peeps?
Not to worry, we put them in manually and they're good to go.
This is one of those mythical win-win scenarios they teach you in kindergarten.
