05 K1200s low speed handling

Hi everybody,

I've recently returned to the K bike fold after a few years gap. ( Previously had a K1100rs and then a K1200rs ) Now have a 05 blue and white K1200S. Non ESA model.

I'm liking the power, brakes and high speed handling of the S but the low speed handling ( under 35mph ) can only be described as awful. It will not hold a straight line while cruising and feels like the front wheel is rocking from side to side. Constantly correcting it through the heavy steering is hard work. I've tried keeping a light touch on the bars ( figuring I might be over correcting ) but it still weaves. Bike has done 15000 miles and has no steering damper. It was worse with the damper so I removed it.

I'm thinking maybe new ball joints at this point.

Regards Stu

Guess it's a ball joint swap out then, anybody here done this themselves? I have a good workshop and access to a press if needed. I have no warranty on this bike unfortunately.

Ball joints +1.
If i remember correctly, to replace ball joints you need BMW special tool.

The K12S is not a low speed friendly bike. Fixing the ball joint will help, but it still won't handle better than other ST bikes.
