Hello,

I need some help from the experts here. I recently purchased a 2006 K12S from Countryside BMW in Chicagoland. Have enjoyed a few rides, nothing especially long. After bringing the bike home the last two rides (of maybe an hour each), I noticed the very strong smell of oil/gas in my garage. The first time, I looked at the bike and didn't see anything leaking on the ground.

The second time -- I got underneath in my driveway and could very clearly see coolant leaking from the reservoir tank exit tube where the clamp is. It was leaking pretty fast down directly under the reservoir tank. The reservoir looks to be bone dry.

I've never noticed any smoke coming from the bike, the bike has not ever overheated (temp gauge looks normal), and compression/performance seems normal when riding. But the smell is clearly of oil and gas.

Questions:
1. Have I screwed the pooch and blown the head gasket? Could I have warped/cracked a head by now after two rides?

2. Could this be the water pump seal and not a head gasket?

3. Does anyone have any idea what these cost to repair? I've had the bike for about a month and am not especially mechanically inclined. I would take it to the dealer for repair -- but am disappointed this has happened so quickly after purchasing.

I can't offer much but the only time I ever smelled gas on my 2006 K1200S was when the coils failed. Gas was dumping into the pipe, it turned cherry red inside and I had to replace it along with the O2 sensor just to be safe. I took it to the dealer right away (it started running bad) so I didn't look at the coolant levels or anything.

If the cap on the overflow isn't holding the required pressure it will cause the coolant leak as you're describing it.
