I got bored with the K13S last year and wanted something sportier, so I sold the K bike and bought a Ducati 1098. I was hoping to get in some track days on the Duc and its ergos would be passable enough to use on the street. Reality set in when I realized that while the 1098 is a fine sport bike and I'm glad I owned it, it really wasn't getting ti done for me. So it went up for sale and I was thinking about buying my old K back from the dealer.
I walked into my local BMW shop for a club meeting and it hit me - the K1300S HP. I'll admit that I can be shallow, but I digs me some carbon fiber on a bike and the paint scheme was pleasing to my eye. The Akrapovic can and HP accessories were a bonus. So I sold the Duc and immediately made my way to the shop to take possession of #281 of 750.
I've gotten in 100 miles on it so far and the immediate impression s are I'm glad I didn't buy my old bike back. It had a nasty flat spot at 5k rpm and would bog down if the throttle was juiced. Not the case on this one. It's shod with Metzler Z8's, with which I have no experience, but the ride and handling feel firmer than with the PR2's I had on the old bike. And it's nice to be able to stretch out in the cockpit compared to the Duc.
Also, the clutch pull and lower first gear make the Beemer a much easier bike to ride in rush hour traffic compared to the Duc. But I admit that I miss the sound of those Termignoni pipes.
So with any luck, I'll be set for a while.
