Changing the heated grips rubbers

HI all,

have any of you blokes ever changed the standard BMW OE heated grips rubbers on these bikes (K1200S.)?
Mine are looking a bit tatty and want to fit new ones.

is a straight foward job? and do they come as a rubber cover or is it a complete unit?

thanks in advance.

Grip replacement

I replaced mine last winter to the tune of $224 for the pair. The bolts to remove the switchgear pods are hidden inside the visible outer cover. If I recall, there are one or two visible bolts/screws to remove, then using a flat blade, you pop off the cover to get access to the remaining bolts that keep everything tight. Then you can get to the bolts that hold the grips on and the electrical connections. Not too big a job, just take your time and don't force anything.

I just replaced them on my nike has well. Cost me just under $250. I made sure to put grip puppies on this time too. They are cheap and the people at the dealership say it helps them last longer. Sounds good to me. They tend to wear out rather quickly for something that pricey.

I replaced the grips on my K1300s that has OE heated grips. If your heated grips are still working but just want better/softer grips (I tried the grip puppies but didn't like the increased circumference) you can carefully use a razor blade and carefully cut the old grips off, don't slice all the way thru or you risk hitting the heating wires, slice partway thru and use a pair of pliers to open up the slice and pull off the grip starting on the inside of each grip. I replaced my grips with Pro Grips at about $15/set (don't remember which model #), you will need two sets since you will only use the larger diameter grip from each set and slide them on with hairspray. If you do some searching on the different forums you will find detailed instructions with photos,
