18000 service cost

How much did you pay for the 18,000 mile service? Mine is costing around $800.
Valve check
Brake fluid change
Final drive fluid change
etc...

Don't exactly know what all is included until i pick the bike up later this week, but the $800 sounds a little high.

I'm bringing mine if this weekend for the same thing. The dealer didn't offer a price but then again I didn't ask either but I'm figuring it'll be close to $1K. I'm going to ask them to do a coolant change out as well and will report back what it hurts, er, I mean what it costs.

Serviced my '05 K12s last year, the only expense was the oils, filter and brake fluid. Most of your dealer bill will be made up of labour as It is a timely procedure because you have to take off most of the plastics to access the ABS control module, then you have a lot of pumping and bleeding of the system to flush out the old brake fluid.

Unfortunately the final drive on early K12's have a horizontal fill / drain plug, which means that you have to remove the rear wheel and split the shaft to allow it swing down and drain.

Luckily I had my son available to give me a dig out... 2 heads and an extra pair of hands certainly helped. There are many tutorials to be found throughout the bmw forums should you wish to get your fingers dirty and save some hard earned cash!

If Bud has the 1300S, it is a little easier to drain the FD as we now have a drain plug to remove after taking off the brake caliper. My 12k/18K (at 17,800) was about $630 but did not include any fluids, as I had done them all. It did however, include replacing the coolant($120) with my Water Wetter solution I provided, removing from the bike and mounting and balancing two tires ($80), valve check but no adjust ($180), 4 new plugs ($96?) since they were already there and the tech said they looked like they could use replacement (hey they were there so okay....). The bike ran noticably better and performs as new...

Okay, I dropped it off yesterday and asked about the approximate cost and was told $850 NOT INCLUDING COOLANT REPLACEMENT! WTF? Oh, and they called me later that afternoon to tell me that the pinion seal was bad; labor to replace it will be another $213 plus $15 for the part itself.

Picked up my bike Friday. Total invoice was $982.32. I know, WOW. Basically $356 parts, and $587 labor. That included some things that weren't part of the service, but were needed on my bike. Attached invoice.

coolant replaced?

I looked at your invoice and see a charge for coolant. Hmmm, the service writer at my dealership blew off the notion that a coolant replacement is needed yet my cost will end up being about the same as yours.

Maintenance schedule says every 30,000 km. That's 18,641 miles. If your service manager is telling you 24 to 32K, he may be going by KM, not miles. My bike was at 19,600 miles. I didn't have any valve issues, but on my last K12S, another 07, they adjusted 12 of the 16 valves. I know, that's a lot. Depends on the bike, but valve clearance isn't something i want to not be right. Now, if only the d*&$ clutch holds out.
