Panniers for 2008 K1200S

Greetings - Just purchased my 5th BMW, currently own a 2010 S1000RR as well. "New" K1200 S with under 6k & searching for OEM bags or... Those in the know - are the sport bags the only choice that BMW offers? They are adjustable regarding storage, however, do not appear particularly large enough to tour for 5-7 days... Suggestions my brothers & sisters? I will opt for soft bag on the tail. Thanks!

BMW Bags

I added the BMW bags on my '06 K1200S then kept them when I moved to a '10 K1300S. I think they are only useful for around town or storage when parked for my helmet (Shoei Neotec and X11 fit easily), jacket or pants. They expand but I would never ride that way, tried it once. They are not too good in rain but come with inner bags to use. The inner bags are bulky and take up too much space if you really need to pack stuff in. They come off easily when not in use.
I am looking into the Givi sidecase quick release frames. If you are looking to do long rides and not any lane sharing (CA) I would go with Givi...even the BMW bags would not work well lane sharing. Twisted Throttle carries the frames, sure others do as well, ~$220. There are more case options using the Givi frames and I like the fact you can remove the frames when not in use.
Good luck in your search.

I have the BMW sports bags on my k1300S. I find if I pack well I can get about a week of stuff in the bags. When I use the bike for longer trips I fill the bags and toss a Helen bag across the rear seat. The longest trip has been about two weeks and 8000 miles. I am planning on this setup when I do the 4 corners tour.

I uses an older version of this paid $320. at the time - 75 to 90 Liter side - I do 2 up with my son with gear for 2 & 2 to 3 person tent with BMW tank bag. I do not like her with a fat ass around town & $1K for the small BMW bags
