Question 2006 K1200s - won't start - 100% battery - clicking noise

Originally posted in the wrong section (K1200GT)

My K1200s has 8600 mils, I've had it about 1 year it is in perfect condition, prior (original) owner was an absolute BMW addict and took great care of it (kept it serviced and updated at the BMW in Little Rock, AR, it's my pride and joy, I cannot even believe I own it.

We've had a rash of ran over the last couple weeks, so I didn't get to ride for about 2 week, but I always keep her on a trickle.

Tried to start it and upon putting the key in start mode, I hear a repetitive sound like a fuel pump sound, may be normal, just never really listened to it. Then when I push the start button, I get nothing but a clicking sound and no turn over. It did display the DWA! Code in the LCD screen, and I researched to find that was potentially the little anti-theft batteries that may be low. So I went out and replaced those. Now the bike just says CHECK! and still does not want to start.

Please help me out here - I'm stuck. The Engine Icon comes on when I try the start button.

Won't start

If you have a fully charged battery and hear a clicking noise, I would think that the bike is not getting the 12 + volts. Make sure the battery terminals are tight and corrosion free. Your start solenoid may be bad and not allowing the full power to the starter. If that was good, it could be in the starter itself. The light could be on because the system is sensing low voltage.

I am not a professional motorcycle mechanic, I am an aircraft mechanic and systems are similar so I am trying to help you troubleshoot.

I had the same problem and had to do the K1200S "starting dance" when I wanted to start the bike. With the ignition on and the clutch pulled in put the bike in 1st, then neutral. Then with the starter button engaged tickle the shifter up toward 2nd and down toward 1st. See if that helps.

Bluz - Where do I send the cheeseburger.

I took the battery in to the BMMR dealer, and it was replaced 2 years and 3 weeks prior (by the previous owner). The battery had a sticker showing (05-02-13) on it. Which told them that the battery was installed by BMW and it was therefore warrantied for 2 years. But it's now 3 weeks later than two years.

The service manager made a very kind decision and replace the battery under warranty. I took it home, plugged it in, and put it on the trickle charger for about 6 hours, and....

Pushed the starter button, and VARROOOMM - OMG my baby is back to life. SOOO Happy! Cost to Revman? $0.00

I still love this bike!

Thanks guys for the input and help! I appreciate it greatly!!

Yup, most newer bikes especially Beemers are very sensitive to battery condition. Too little voltage and it causes all sorts of possible messages that leave you scratching your head.
