K1200R - Scary Used Buy?

Hi guys, I'm a new member here that just bought a mint K1200R with 18,000 miles on the clock. Full BMW History and it has had the gear box selector issue fixed.

I put up a post about my latest purchase on another BMW Boxer Forum and I got a few messages from "Commiserations" to "make sure you get the BMW Extended Warranty!"

For example:
You can ease the pain slightly by ensuring it has BMW Extended warranty ... .a MUST have as K's are complex beasts with many very very expensive parts .... rear ESA £2000, ABS pump £1400, instrument console £900, throttle bodies £500, radiator £500 ..... trust me I know .

Do I need to be worried or have I just bought a cracking bike? I hope so as I have always wanted one!

Cheers.

Suggest you go over to. "Euro K Club" forum. Not many KR 's on this side of the pond. As far as Boxer comments they are just jealous. KR or KS are great bikes with tons of hp. As with all bikes issues with certain years are there, usually with improper maintenance. Forums magnify issues of some compared with the amount of bikes sold. Ride it, enjoy it and do proper maintenance .

Hi Big Tav
I am thinking of buying K1200s, 2007 onwards seem to be a bit better than earlier models and don't have the servo brakes.
I had thought about a k1200r sport (like yours but with a bit of a top fairing) as they are much cheaper than the K1200s.
I would be interested in any ride observations.
