Fuel cap upright detent broken

Anyone on their K12/13s ever heard of a fuel cap failure where the detent rollpin managed to break free?

Here I am stopping at gas station and find this black plastic piece laying in the overflow gutter inside the fuelcap.
Its basically the bottom of the rollpin cage that broke away and let the whole sum of its mechanism parts break free.
Trying to get a warranty claim going.(K1300s built 2014)
