Exclamation HELP! Mounting of a Radar Detector...?

Howdy, Gang!
I was wondering if anybody out there had a really great method of hard-wiring your radar detector to the bike? I am hoping to find instructions, .pdfs, pictures, and/or websites that can help...

I am looking for a neat/clean switch-on ideas instead of the turn the key and the lights come on approach because of the possibility of the detector's fine electronics being damaged by the power draw of the starter. I does not work well for avionics, so I can imagine it is similar for this application...

Oh yeah - one last thing. I need to try to get this installed BEFORE I leave for Laguna Seca Moto GP this coming Thursday...

Thanks y'all!!

I used the gps connector, since I have no plans to use gps. I just cut it off.
It is now swicthed, my detector stays on for apx. 30 secnds after the key is turned off.

The connector can be found inside your battery compartment...it will be obvious.

I took the hardwire adapter kit thingie for my X50 and wired it to the battery. It tucks nicely under the front of the battery cover when not in use, or it can be pulled out and zip tied to one of the cables on the right hand side.

Then, get yourself some $2 velcro and slap it on top of the front brake resevoir. Cut it in a nice round shape before you start slapping. Slap another piece on the bottom of your radar detector.

Been using this method for the last 14 months and 11,000 miles in all conditions and it works great, cheap, fast, and effectively. Non-gadget guys don't make fun of me cause I don't have brackets and shelfs sticking out every where. Gadget guys don't make fun of me cause they don't see the velcro even when its not on.

You could just turn your detector off and then after you've started it, turn it back on. I remove mine everytime I get off my bike so I hadn't worried about frying any electronics really.

Have fun at Laguna! I'm jealous.

I bought the radar mount from Pirates Lair that slips over the clutch res.
Works great and it was reasonable at $45.

I used a Blue Sea fuse block and hardwired it to the battery. Since I take the radar detector with me whenever I am off the bike, the switched power thing was never an issue with me.

The block was attached to the CPU on the left side under the fairing and works great.

I also bought Pirate's cluctch res. radar mount for use with my Valentine One.

Over-all it is a very clean install and allows me to add other farkles in the future...if it gets to the point where I need to make it switchable I will just re-wire the fuse block to a switched source.

I tried the Catatafish method but it didn't work for me in the Southern California summer heat due to the irregularities in the surface of the reservoir cap. The velcro was stronger than the adhesive, and when I tried to remove the detector, the velcro would come with it. So I went with the little device from Pirate that attaches to the reservoir cap. It works great. It was simple to wire my X50 directly to the battery with the harness provided by Escort.

It's not the speed that kills, it's the rate at which the speed diminishes...

Ordered Stuff from Pirate's Lair

This morning I ordered the Pirate's Radar Mount and H.A.R.D. thingy. I hope to get them on or before Wednesday, as I am going to be goin' to Laguna on Thursday morning...

The V1 was ordered yesterday (next-day-air) and should be on my doorstep right now...
(No, y'all can't have my address!) :p

So, I will hard-wire the system sometime this week in the evening with the help of Raffe (thank you, Sir!) and quickly mount everything Wednesday night and be ready 'n revin' to go first thing Thursday a.m.

Good times, good times...

Go Nicky!

You lucky dog. I rode right past the highway exit for Laguna Seca after I picked up my KS last Thursday (07/06). To bad it was not next Thursday. Darn. Be sure to post some photos.
