New software coming...

I just spoke with BMW NA about 2 issues;

1.) poor performance during low speed maneauvers

response: BMW is aware of the problem - has had complaints which they've fed back to Germany...anticipates release of a new software version in roughly 4 weeks to address this. They will work to get this available as soon as possible.

2.) backfiring/popping on decel

response: They have not had any complaints about this before.

Possibly an issue unique to my bike?( I am running a laser slip-on with evo air filters)

If you too are experiencing this, can I please ask you to take a few minutes to let them know, so I'm not alone?

Re: #2

I also get some popping on decel from time to time, it's not consistent though. I happen to have a two brothers slip on. I don't think it's isolated to your bike and I'm sure others have the same issue.

Join the board...

Howdy John,

You might suggest to the BMW NA contact that they join this board and monitor the site.

Here is a link the survey on the "backfire" on the K-R and K-S that would be informative to our friends at BMW NA.

Me too. Much popping on deceleration following the 6.0 upgrade. As you recall, we had some discussion on this last week.
If you run a search of threads by my screen name you may find it and others.
I know I've seen several folks with the exact same issue.
Maybe print all the threads on this topic and send them to you BMW contact.

I have the "issue", but it's not a real big deal to me.

Aftermarket exhaust?

Just a thought, but I don't have backfiring and popping because I have the STOCK exhaust. I'm curious if anyone with a OEM pipe has the problems you guys have described.

I know the engines are completely different, but when I switched to an aftermarket exhaust on my GS adventure, I had the same problem you guys are experiencing, the popping/backfiring. Same thing happened when I went to different pipes on my Harley.

Since this happened to me with other bikes, I chose to keep the stock exhaust on my KS.

Keep a high visual horizon,
Bob

my s back fires and pops like fireworks

everytime all the time on deceleration. But I kind of like it, have a twobrothers tit can no cat on it and it does sound like a motorcycle now. Hate the sewing machine noise BMW's make stock piped.

Do you have high flow air filters?

2005 with Ver 6 and OEM exhaust. It pops. Not disturbing, but it is there. With the upgrade I did get smoother at low RPM's along with the decel pop.

I was happy with the software upgrade until a couple days before the rally. The bike had some type of "Brain Fart" and was choppy at crusing speed. This kept up until I pulled over about 40 miles later then restarted the bike.

I cant wait to hear the service advice, it will be just like calling for computer support, "Did you try to reboot it?" Ahhh, technology.
