Well, I pulled the trigger yesterday!

I traded my 24,000 mile 2003 K1200RS, white & blue beauty with matching blue painted bags, for a 2006 K1200S in granite grey.

I think the deal was ok. The new bike has ESA, ABS, heated grips, computer, sport saddlebags (FREE!), BMW Nav III GPS (FREE!), centerstand, and Throttlemeister. The out-the-door money difference...tax and everything, was $10,300.

The deal-closer occurred when I called home from the showroom floor asking my wife, Peg, for her final input on the decision. Her comment? "Well Chuck, if it's worth it to you to spend $10,300.00 just to go FASTER, then do it." Sounded good to me.

Agree?

Congrats!

I just picked up mine yesterday (although Black/Yellow).

Fantastic improvement.

Does you wife have a sister for me?

And are you gonna change your signature line now?

I pick up my new one next Friday. Got a very nice deal on it and it would have been rude of me not to buy it!

I agree...

...the free bags and Nav system probably pushed me over the edge. Funny how the BMW Mottorad and other websites never even posted the free bag promo...I guess it was available for one week only and expired on Sept. 2, Saturday.

I asked my dealer to make sure I had the new 7.0 software and was told that I'd only get it if I needed it because of problems. What have you heard?

When I picked mine up last Friday, I was told the same thing. They said that only if I experience some of the symptoms addressed by 7.0, would they load it, unlike the previous versions.

So far, I like the bike, so no worries.

I don't know if you do things differently in the US as a general rule in things like this, but my dealer automatically updates all new bikes sold to version 7.0 as part of the PDI. He says that is standard practice. Sounds like your dealer isn't really into the bike software and doesn't want to get involved unless you force him. I doubt BMW issue the updates for fun, it's out there for a reason because it improves the ridability of the bike. I can (almost) understand a dealer not offering the update on a bike already sold unless you insist, but to let one go out the door with the comment that he'll only do it if you have problems is frankly appalling.

I think it's no coincidence that my BMW dealer was voted motorcycle dealer of the year in the whole UK by RIDE magazine. He treats his customers with respect and does what he knows to be right. That's how it should be done.

Absolutely not. You should return it and take your wife on a $10,300 vacation.

When I asked for the 7.0 software...

...the dealer said he's not sure it's even got the bugs worked out of IT yet. He quoted stories, that we've seen on the Web, about GTs getting the update and then their power windshields no longer operate. I guess he sees this as an indication that 7.0 is not perfect either.

I suppose I could tell him to do it anyway, because my new S's windshield will not move no matter what software it has!
