K100rs

My 85 K100RS, 67,000 miles, developed a disconcerting problem after I had the motor professionally replaced with a used 30,000mile K motor - it died 40 miles out of the shop. I got it started but it died again while I was seriously leaned into a turn. Once I got out of the hospital and had the bike hauled home, it started long enough for me to ride it to my shop. Then it didn't start again for a month. Then it started but wouldn't stay running. Then it didn't start again for another month. Yesterday it started, ran for 30 seconds and died. It started a couple more times but wouldn't run.

Ideas, opinions, advice?

Disconnect the plug under the tool tray, Left side under seat. Clean and reconnect. Make sure you hear/feel the engagement click. I had similar difficulties and that remedied it just before taking it to shop. That was about 2500 miles ago. no problems since. hope that helps you out.

square one rolls on

to kjwrad: I tried it , didn't work. Obviously something else is intermittently amiss. Thanks.

found it, fixed it, rollin'

kjwrad,

Steve Prokop, beemer master mechanic, told me to try the gas tank electrical plug under the right side cover, a longish white deal. I found it, pulled it apart, blew it out, clicked it together and touched the starter. The bike immediately fired. I let it run for 20 minutes. Turned it off and started it again. I did this over and over. Starts every time. Runs sweet.
