BMW News for 2008 Models

Color Changes for 2008

K 1200 GT
N19 New color: Aventurin Silver Metallic
989 Discontinued color: Crystal Gray Metallic

K 1200 LT
N02 Discontinued color: Storm Gray Metallic

Option Packages for 2008

To reduce complexity for the online ordering process we generated key option packages for options with the highest historical take rates. There are 7 different packages themed in three main groups:

Safety Package:
This package includes all safety related options i.e. ABS, ASC and TPM

Comfort Package:
This package includes most of the comfort related options i.e. heated grips, ESA, On Board Computer, center stand etc.

Equipment Package:
This package includes most of the general options in the range i.e. handprotection, fog lights, Xenon lights etc.

The content of these packages varies from bike to bike due to the different levels of standard equipment. The cumulative saving by combining options within packages averages 15% across the model line up.

*The silencer of the F 800 models is made of stainless steel; the surface was electronically polished, and is now brushed. This is just a different finish in the production process; there is no difference for the customer in terms of design or quality.

Second metal key

From MY 2008 we will offer a second metal key based on customer request. The dealer has to order this key when delivering the bike to the customer and claim the cost through warranty.

Service interval display indicator

The service plan for models with the service interval display has been changed. In the future there will only be the first inspection (at 600 miles) followed by a yearly inspection. The instrumentation will indicate to the rider when this annual inspection is required enabling him/her to make an appointment with the dealership.

The content of this yearly inspection is determined by the mileage of the bike, ridden within this timeframe.

Advantage to the customer: It is not neccessary to follow a complex service plan, just once a year the bike has to be checked in the workshop. This is a dramatic improvement in convenience and helps reduce cost of ownership.

WOW, making people take ESA to get heated grips?

Hopefully they are still available separate. While I had ESA on my RT (do not have it on my K1200R Sport) I found it interesting but basically a non-item long term. In other words, my needs for suspension change ups didn't make the added cost or complexity worth it.

BMW reducing the cost of ownership?

Um....no...I don't think so. If anything...quality has been marginalized and profit margins increased on ALL of the new models starting in 05'. If anything...these bikes have gotten more expensive to own and maintian.....but BMW likes it like that.....they don't want just anyone riding these bikes!

They are not avaible separately, must buy as a package. Just ordered an 08.

Has anyone obtained the 2nd metal key with a new 2008? I have an 08 GS and wouldn't mind getting an extra metal key if its free.
