$5000 K1200R-Sport from Amercian Express

MyWishList site at American Express was offering sizzling deals on a variety of items, one of which was six K1200R-Sports for $5k each. Advertised price was $17k, but we know from recent blurbs and posts that BMW may be discontinuing the line and that new ones for ~$11k were possible.

What do you think about the AmEx price?

I bought one in November for a very good price but would have gotten another one for $5k. It was some special promo offer, no doubt, between the two.

every year american express has great deals on items but you've got to be quick and put your bid in at just the right time. last year they had a porche cheyanne for 5K but i got stuck in a meeting and didn't get a chance to make a purchase request. there is only 1 and if your the first to make a buy offer you only have a few minutes to arrange payment. didn't see the KR sport

I would say in raw materials, it's close. Especially after all the development work had been done.

But in developmental costs, salaries, cost of maintainence of assembly plant, etc. No. For a run of 3-5 years, they probably have to sell them pretty near MSRP to make a profit. Especially if they don't sell well. I'm sure they have bean counters that have thought this through.

It probably doesn't cost them much to go ahead and run an extra 5 bikes through the plant. Or release 5 of the overstock in a given year.

Unhappy

I think that AMEX paid BMW full-boat price for the bikes and is listing them on MyWishList as part of their advertising budget.
What could the cost to AMEX be?? One/one millionth of their yearly advertising budget!

Wish I had one for five grand!!!!

Angry It was impossible to buy from AMEX

I played around with that website. I bid on a bunch of items. Everything from make-up kits and pocket books where they had 750 available to Plasma TVs, (40 available) trips, and the BMW K1200R (2 available). I had 5 windows open with my browser and probably bid over 100 times within the 10 seconds that each of these items became available. In the end I got NOTHING.. total waste of time.

These promotional items are gone before the windows says it is availble for bid.

You didnt miss anything.
