Las Vegas/first ride this year
Two of us 07 GT riders are in the Las Vegas area from April 1 to 5 and would like to do some riding, perhaps get off the pavement a bit as well. We contacted BMW of Las Vegas to reserve a couple R1200GS es and they have only one left (of anything) which we reserved and wait listed for another dual sportor BMW of some description.
I have not found much else on the net except HD rentals and don't know if any of the bikes I have seen would be suitable for off pavement.
Any Ideas? I guess we'll just have to plan any riding to suit the bikes available. We are both experienced (50 + years).
The roads today were dry but not clean and the temp was +3 C, although a couple nights ago it went down to -27 C.
It was my chance to try out the new air box, V10 software, new gloves, new top box and a longer tail sewed into my Belstaff jacket (my back had been getting cold).
There was too much gravel on the highways to do much cornering, but I certainly love twisting the throttle.
I've never had trouble with the Hi idle and BBS, though I did have uneven idle around 2000rpm, back firing and jerky throttle response at low RPM and low gearing.
It is better, not perfect, but better and soother overall although, I last rode it in Oct.
The new castle gloves were still nice and warm after an hour's ride at highway+ speed and they were not very expensive at about $70.
I could feel the drag and a lightening of the front end with the new top box even with no weight. The over size Cal Sci shield works well but also contributes to the light feeling on the front end.
I sure am looking forward to some extended riding in the Vegas area and hope we can find a couple gs bikes, 1200, 800 or 650 or any other reasonable dual sport to rent.
