Today's rant - Cell phone drivers

About a year ago I got into a "discussion" with my wife about her constant use of the cell phone while driving. I told her I thought most of the drivers who forced me out of my lane or caused near misses were on cell phones. She said no way. So I started to keep count. Today was event #18.

Here's the breakdown:

12 of the 18 drivers were on cell phones. (statistically significant I'd say)
5 were men....and thus
13 were women. Of those 13...
12 were about 25 or under. Of those 12...
11 were on cell phones.

Fellow riders, my wife doesn't believe me (never has) but if you want to stay out of the hospital.....avoid young women on cell phones!

Had to get that off my chest. Thank you for your time.

And now young ladies bust their ass to get in the left lane and...... drum roll please....

..... are you ready for this?......

They fucking text message. While driving slow and weaving. I've seen cops get behind, I slow down to watch, they run them and then leave. And the gal text messaging never knows he was back there. It would seem, to my feeble brain, that would be reason to pull someone over.... if they noticed.

Sitting at a stoplight, I'm going straight, the turn arrow comes on, I count 21 cars with 20 on the cell phone. The more affluent the area, the more likely they're yakking.

The comedian, Gallagher, came up with the idea of shooting a car with one of those paintball guns when someone does something stoopid. I think that's valid to this day.

There was a time I considered carrying an inert WWII pineaple hand grenade with me on my rides. The next time someone did something stoopid close to me, I was going to make a show of pulling the pin and toss the grenade in their window.

I told someone about my plan once, and he told me if anyone ever did that to him, he would make it a point to run me over, knowing he was going to die anyway....

But I like the paintball idea.

Screw the paint ball...I'm all for live ammo. Laser sighted rocket launchers perhaps?

I gave up counting long ago the number of asshole drivers that were yacking away. Personally I think there needs to be MUCH stiffer penalties. Especially if you cause an accident. Public stoning in the town square?

So, how many of you guys use a cell phone when you're driving.??

Or, better yet, how many of you will talk to your wife/GF/best friend
or anyone else when you know that THEY are driving while talking to you.

Yeah, thought so.

Well, I don't use it on my bike, but the blue tooth on the Zumo works real well in my truck. Hands free and voice activated. Wifes car is the same way. No phones to the ear or dialing to be done.

i can't say i don't do both. i text and talk. But, i at least use hands free. it makes a world of difference when your using hands free. also i text without looking at the pad and write in caveman to keep it short.
